The European automotive industry is a strong champion of quality jobs. Jobs that Europe cannot afford to lose. A sector of strategic importance for Europe, employing 10% of the workforce and 30% of Europe’s R&I - it needs to remain competitive globally. On Wednesday, I met with representatives of the automotive industry to hear first-hand about the challenges facing the sector but also about the opportunities: ▶️ Ola Kaellenius, President of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) and CEO of Mercedes-Benz AG ▶️ Matthias Zink, President of CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers and CEO of Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler ▶️ Christian Levin, Chair of the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) Commercial Vehicles Board, and President and CEO of Scania Group 🔑 We need access to quality labour. 🌍 We need Europe to be the place that both workers and firms want to be. A huge investment in skills and reskilling is needed. European education must concentrate on tech and science. 📚 We need to prioritise investment in STEM from an early age. 🔧 The next generation of skills needs to include software programming and engineering - today’s cars are software on wheels. 🎯 We need short-term training that is focused and delivers meaningful skills. 🔄 Companies have valuable best practices and curricula on skilling - ready to be shared for faster transformation.

📢 Guidelines for Erasmus+ Projects on the Green Transition 🇪🇺 The European Commission has published the “Implementation Guidelines – Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps Green Transition and Sustainable Development Strategy” to empower participants, organisations, and stakeholders in fostering sustainability. 🎯 Here are the key takeaways: 🌍 Education as a Catalyst for Sustainability: 📘 Education and training are at the heart of climate action, promoting green skills and sustainable practices. 🧠 The GreenComp Framework highlights values, complexity, actions, and visions to equip learners for a sustainable future. 🚆 Prioritizing Sustainable Mobility: 🚌 Erasmus+ supports green travel (train, bus, cycling) through financial incentives. 🚄 The DiscoverEU initiative inspires young Europeans to explore sustainably, creating a greener, more aware generation. 🌱 Embedding Sustainability Across Projects: 🌐 All Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps projects are encouraged to integrate eco-conscious practices like virtual mobility, resource efficiency, and waste reduction. 🌳 Volunteering and solidarity projects focus on climate action, community resilience, and nature conservation. 🤝 Empowering Organisations & Agencies: 🏢 Organisations play a key role in integrating sustainability throughout project phases—before, during, and after implementation. 🤝 National Agencies and SALTO Resource Centres offer training, resources, and support to strengthen green practices. 🔧 Vocational Education and Training (VET) at the core: 🛠️ VET is pivotal for upskilling and reskilling learners for green jobs, supporting the EU's transition to a sustainable economy. 📈 Linked to the European Skills Agenda, Erasmus+ promotes the development of green competencies for emerging industries. 📊 Monitoring and Scaling Impact: 🔍 The strategy emphasizes evidence-gathering, reporting, and fostering synergies with programs like Horizon Europe to amplify sustainability goals. 💡 Takeaway: These guidelines underscore Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps' role as changemakers, building a sustainable, inclusive, and climate-conscious Europe. #ErasmusPlus #Sustainability #GreenSkills #ClimateAction #VocationalEducation
