Smart contracts are programs stored on a blockchain that automatically execute when predetermined conditions are met. The reason to use smart contracts in the energy sector? They automate agreement execution, providing immediate outcomes without intermediaries. For instance, they can release payment to renewable energy producers once the agreed-upon energy is delivered to the grid. This represents a reduction of 102 Mt CO2 eq. since 2017, which represents 39%. The Group has set itself ambitious objectives for 2030, to materialize its CSR commitments by that date. These ambitious objectives are part of ENGIE's ongoing commitment to meet the growing expectations of its various stakeholders to control CSR risks and align the company's performance with national or international sustainable development objectives. BASF and ENGIE signed a 7-year Biomethane Purchase Agreement (BPA). Under the BPA, ENGIE will supply BASF with 2.7 to 3.0 terawatt hours of biomethane throughout the term of the agreement. BASF uses certified biomethane at its Ludwigshafen (Germany) and Antwerp (Belgium) sites as a sustainable alternative to fossil raw materials in its manufacturing process. Google and ENGIE have set a beacon of sustainability in Belgium, through several Power Purchase Agreements signed recently! With a series of Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (cPPAs) signed in the last few months, ENGIE will provide 3,7 TWh of green power to Google for its largest infrastructure portfolio outside the U.S. ENGIE will ensure the supply of Google’s Belgian infrastructure, thanks to four cPPAs recently signed. With a targeted portfolio of 1GW local green power by 2030, these new deals will not only allow to provide Google with sustainable power but are all sourced from ENGIE’s onshore wind projects in Belgium, from additional or newly built assets. Moreover, Google also agreed to the renewal of its PPA inked with ENGIE in 2019, sourced from the offshore wind farm Norther, for 2.5 TWh of additional renewable energy over 8 years. ENGIE has won the Deal of the Year award in the 2024 Energy Risk Rankings! Many thanks to Risk.net for the recognition of our teams’ work in BESS, culminating in the acquisition of Broad Reach. This $1-billion deal with the Houston-based battery storage specialist includes more than 350MW of operating assets and an additional 1.7GW under development, bringing ENGIE closer to its goal of 10GW of complementary battery storage capacity by 2030.
