Green Marine Europe is an environmental certification program dedicated to the European maritime industry.
À propos
[French below] Green Marine Europe (GME) is a non-profit NGO committed to reducing the environmental footprint of maritime transport. Since its launch in 2020 under license from Green Marine, in coordination with Surfrider Foundation Europe, it has adapted 11 environmental performance indicators for European shipowners and shipyards, thus contributing to the achievement of 11 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 14. Now an independent legal entity since summer 2024, under the 1901 law and autonomous from Surfrider Foundation Europe, GME is the European branch of Green Marine International. To receive their certification, participants must annually measure their environmental performance using the environmental program's self-assessment guides, submit their results to an external audit by an independent auditor accredited by Green Marine Europe, and agree to publish their results.

🌊🔊Green Marine Europe was at two major events on March 13 and 14! 📅 The first, organized by our supporter IFAW at the CMA CGM headquarters (a certified GME company), provided an opportunity to present our environmental certification program — with a focus on our “underwater noise” indicator to key stakeholders 💡Did you know Green Marine Europe is 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 (KPI)? This issue is crucial to protecting marine biodiversity, which is highly sensitive to the acoustic impact of maritime activity. 🕒 The event also featured discussions on the “𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁-𝗜𝗻-𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲” concept applied to ships. This approach optimizes ship arrivals by adjusting sailing speed to ensure vessels reach the port precisely when the port infrastructure is ready. 📌 The event also hosted a constructive debate on the International Maritime Organization's Experience Building Phase on underwater noise. This key initiative aims to gather and analyze field data and stakeholder feedback to identify best practices and effective measures to mitigate underwater noise impacts. This collective work paves the way for concrete progress in enhancing the sector’s environmental performance. 📅 The second event, held on March 14 and organized by ACCOBAMS, brought together the same key stakeholders to address another major issue: 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 (𝗣𝗦𝗦𝗔) 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗻. 🌍 Green Marine Europe actively contributes to implementing the voluntary recommendations linked to this PSSA, which are integrated into level 2 of our underwater noise indicator. We support shipowners in developing ambitious roadmaps to reduce their impact on these iconic species. 🚢 Our participants are on the front line of reducing their ecological footprint by adjusting sailing speeds and fostering environmental innovation. 🤝 This constructive dialogue paves the way for strengthened cooperation with the ACCOBAMS network moving forward. 🙏Thank you to IFAW and ACCOBAMS for these inspiring exchanges! 🔖 With OceanCare (GME supporter), BlueSeeds (GME partner) #GreenMarineEurope #UnderwaterNoise #SustainableShipping #JustInTime #IMO #MarineBiodiversity #MaritimeSustainability #KPI

💰 Do environmental certifications help to finance the environmental transition? 🚢🌱 While Green Marine Europe (GME) is proving its effectiveness in structuring the environmental strategies of maritime companies, one challenge remains: only 30% of General Managers believe that GME facilitates access to finance for the environmental transition. 📊 However, banks and investors are increasingly sensitive to CSR commitments and the transparency of environmental indicators. 💡 Should we better promote environmental certifications to financiers? How can we bring these two worlds closer together? 📣 A new challenge for our certification! Join our movement 🔗 https://urls.fr/FZaNvj Discover the full impact measurement 👉https://urls.fr/pf0LtC
