International Day of Light
Organisations civiques et sociales
The annual focal point (May 16th) for celebrating the role of light and light-based technologies in our daily lives.
À propos
The International Day of Light is a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy. The broad theme of light will allow many different sectors of society worldwide to participate in activities that demonstrates how science, technology, art and culture can help achieve the goals of UNESCO – education, equality, and peace. Each year, around May 16, events are organized worldwide to celebrate the role of light in these various aspects of our daily lives. A resolution supporting the international Day of Light was prepared and was adopted by the UNESCO Executive Board at its 200th session which took place at the UNESCO HQ in Paris, France, on 19 September 2016. We couldn't miss the chance and take part in the next International Symposium on Optics and its Applications and this your for its 12th edition (#OPTICS12). On Tuesday, the 15th of October 2024, Shant, Edvard, and Tatevik participated in a poster session held at the Institute of Applied Problems of Physics and presented our chapter's activities to the attendees. They gave highlights on the organization and management of international events and summer camps, active involvement in leadership programs and science fairs, outreach activities in Armenian schools, the publications of science-popular articles, and the coordination of both seminars and webinars. Our officers didn't forget to also mention our involvement in the International Day of Light (IDL), Photonics Online Meetup (POM), and similar global events. It was a good opportunity to recall our chapter’s history, from its founding in 2004 to the present, and to network with professionals from around the world Our members also explored posters of other participants, learning about their scientific research and chapter activities. Big thanks to the organizers - Narine Gevorgyan and Lusine Tsarukyan, for hosting us. SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics Optica

Following the award of the grant announced by Società Italiana di Fisica and SIOF for the International Day of Light 2024, we organized an event titled “Shedding Light on the Fast Lane: Exploring Ultra Short Light Pulses,” held on May 20, 2024, at the Department of Physics “Ettore Pancini” of the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, entirely dedicated to attosecond physics and ultrafast optics. The day involved about a hundred people, including undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students, researchers, and professors. The first half of the event featured a series of seminars focused on the theme of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics: attosecond physics and ultrafast optics! In the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to closely explore the developing technologies in the department's optical research laboratories. It was wonderful to have you with us to celebrate a brilliant Day of Light✨! #InternationalDayofLight #Physics #AttosecondPhysics #UltrafastOptics #Research #Innovation #Community #EventHighlights

I had the great pleasure to talk to Prof. Pierre Agostini, laureate of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics with Anne L'Huillier and Ferenc Krausz, at the end of his lecture given at the Université Grenoble Alpes on the International Day of Light 2024. https://lnkd.in/eYGyXGpK Pierre Agostini is famous for shrinking the measurement of time down to the attosecond, a billionth of a billionth of a second, using optical techniques based on creating high-order harmonics of light. Magnificent work! Very inspiring to those involved in the science and the engineering of light.
