Small Actions, Big Change in Honduras 🌍 The GEF CReW+ project demonstrates how small initiatives can create significant impacts. In the Indigenous Mosquitia, new sanitation units improve health and reduce costs, while a wastewater treatment plant in Omoa protects water quality for residents and tourists alike. These changes highlight the importance of sustainability—empowering communities to maintain progress for lasting health benefits. Let’s all play our part in driving change! Senior Water Management & Sustainable Development Specialist | IW:LEARN Project Coordinator at UNESCO IOC
It’s been nearly three weeks since we wrapped up IWC10—the 10th Global Environment Facility International Waters Conference—in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and as I look back through the photos, I’m reminded of what an incredible experience it was. I’m taking this moment to reflect on the journey, the hard work, and the amazing outcomes we achieved together. With over 400 participants—nearly 50% of them new faces—along with a striking gender balance and diverse representation spanning the globe, from Tuvalu to Jamaica and from Australia to Canada, it was truly a celebration of inclusivity and collaboration on sustainably managing shared freshwater and marine ecosystems. We brought together more than 100 GEF IW projects and their stakeholders, practitioners, policy makers, academia, civil society and the private sector, to exchange on the key challenges of the GEF IW portfolio, the integrated approaches, the tools and the solutions; the established and emerging threats and the proposed responses; the innovation and the new trends. IWC10 was a special edition that marked the 30th anniversary of the GEF International Waters, born out of the necessity for transboundary cooperation to manage water bodies and ecosystems that transcend political boundaries. As challenges are shared, sustainable management of shared resources requires action anchored in fact-based common understanding and a common vision. What made IWC10 truly special was the palpable energy, as the IW community reconvened after six years! The engagement was remarkable, leading to vivid exchanges, honest reflections on successes and challenges, and a strong drive to learn from each other. We also had some fun along the way – with the vibrant culture and nature of Uruguay adding to the experience. I was incredibly proud to lead this effort, working alongside an amazing team of women from IWLEARN 5 and many other dedicated individuals behind the scenes. It was a collective effort, and together, we delivered a memorable IWC10. Thank you to everyone who made IWC10 an amazing success! Let’s keep the momentum going and continue pushing for sustainable management of our precious shared water resources and ecosystems worldwide. 🌎💧 #IWC10 #GEFIW #TransboundaryWaters #TransboundaryCooperation #Sustainability #Teamwork #Leadership

On the 3 October 2024, the GloFouling Partnerships Global Industry Alliance (#GIA) came together for the penultimate meeting ahead of the 3rd Forum in Busan, with a focus on impactful projects addressing biofouling. For the first time since its inception, nearly all members gathered in person to celebrate the alliance's milestones. These include the creation of awareness-raising materials such as a documentary, commissioning research studies to support accademia and industry efforts to combat #biofouling. These achievements represent significant strides toward preserving marine life and safeguarding livelihoods for the long term.
