💸 At a time when several companies are announcing that they have raised money on 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 Lavoisier H2 Geoconsult had the pleasure last week of welcoming 3 trainees from the KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) and an equity fund P.I. Holdings Ltd. for an 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 with Eric C. Gaucher and Jean Gaucher. ⚠️ We saturated our hydrogen sensor with 2000 ppm H2 ⚠️ Lavoisier H2 Geoconsult had the pleasure of welcoming 3 trainees from OMV to the French Pyrenees for our last 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 summer training with Eric C. Gaucher and Jean Gaucher. The program included a day and a half in the classroom to learn the basics and advanced concepts of natural hydrogen, and a day in the field 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 to test measurement protocols and see the hydrogen geology of French natural hydrogen exploration permits. For our 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆𝘀 (H2, CO2, CH4, H2S, O2), we have 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 by first searching for soils as old as possible in the exploration area, then eliminating the risk of artificial hydrogen generation, and finally using a device with wide measurement ranges (H2 0-2000 ppm, CO2 0-100%), which we 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 every morning with 3 certified standards. The memory effect of high values on the sensor is also negligible. Soon, we'll also be systematically measuring radon 222Rn, thoron 220Rn and helium in order to indisputably demonstrate the deep-seated, non-biological origin of the hydrogen present at the level of major faults. Avec moins de 0,1 %, la part de l’hydrogène dans la mobilité est dérisoire actuellement, et ne semble pas être l’option la plus adaptée pour les véhicules légers, même si certains constructeurs, comme Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) ou Toyota Motor Corporation, explorent cette voie. L’hydrogène semble pertinent dans le cas d’usages intensifs de véhicules lourds tels que les poids lourds, les cars, les trains, les bateaux, voire les avions. Il concentre des avantages certains, notamment : l’absence d’émission de polluant, une autonomie comparable à celle des moteurs thermiques, un ravitaillement rapide et des performances dynamiques élevées. Néanmoins les infrastructures de recharge sont encore peu nombreuses et la production d’hydrogène est encore en majorité assurée par des énergies fossiles. Si la production d’hydrogène “vert”, encore très coûteuse, peut se développer dans les années à venir, un autre espoir se dessine autour de l’extraction d’ hydrogène naturel ou “blanc”. « C’est une vraie option pour produire et fournir de l’hydrogène », résumait Eric Gaucher, géologue et géochimiste venu faire une présentation lors du club “automobile” du 2 juillet. It was a great pleasure to take part in @Curious2024 https://lnkd.in/dMRPP-4E and to talk to top scientists during the AAAS/Science Panel Discussion: Innovative Technologies – Touring the horizon. I introduced the opportunity that #naturalhydrogen represents for our global energy transition. And we discussed the difficulty of financing #breakthrough research. The European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS) has published his new report, Choosing Europe’s Future, in April 2024. The report describes global and European trends up to 2040.
