From July 21 to July 25, 2025, the course will explore the breeding of new grapevine and rootstock cultivars. The OIV International Ampelography Course stands out because it allows participants from around the world to gather and exchange on ampelography, a discipline crucial to the vine and wine sector. The training is delivered by international experts, providing a transversal and global approach to the field. The creation of the course by the OIV was a strategic response to the shortage of specialised professionals in the field. As the leading authority in the vine and wine sector, the OIV is dedicated to advancing ampelography by equipping new professionals to meet the sector's dynamic demands. • 𝐎𝐈𝐕 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬' 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐔𝐒𝐀 The OIV Spring Meetings continue. This time, the focus is on the "Consumption, Nutrition, and Health" (CONUSA) group of Commission IV (Health and Food Safety), which met on March 7. Arina Oana ANTOCE Antoce, (Romania), has been elected as the Chair of the group for a three-year mandate, Prof. Dr. Rena Kosti (Greece) as Vice-Chair. Antoce will coordinate the OIV’s works in collecting and disseminating information on the current state of research regarding the relationship between the consumption of wine and other vine-derived products such as grape juice, fresh grape, raisins, by-products, etc., and human health, as well as the cultural and social aspects linked to consumption and health. The OIV’s historical role in providing scientific insights on health-related issues has been reinforced as a priority in the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan adopted by Member States in October 2024. The resolutions discussed during this meeting focused on information on consumption and health-related aspects for wine and alcoholic beverages of vitiviniculture origin, as well as issues related to wine consumption among adolescents. These are crucial advances to guide member states on key societal topics.

  • 𝐎𝐈𝐕 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬' 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇𝐍𝐎 (Technology) The Technology Expert Group met on March 6 and 7 and elected its new board for a three-year mandate. Congratulations to President Adriaan Oelofse (South Africa) and Vice-President Matthias Schmitt (Germany) for their first session leading the TECHNO group. With 45 resolutions in progress in 2025 (around 20 of which may be presented at the General Assembly in Moldova), the Œnology Commission assesses new oenological practices through the expertise of three groups: Technology, Microbiology and Specifications. The adaptation of oenology and production processes to the future is among the six scientific priorities of the OIV’s new strategic plan. While these practices must address the sector’s sustainability and resilience, they must also respond to evolving market expectations. The growing demand for low-alcohol beverages is one such evolution. We welcome today the TECHNO group’s significant progress on oenological practices for dealcoholised and partially dealcoholised wines. The tasting of dealcoholised wines proposed by France, along with the presentation by the OIV of a bibliographic study on microbiological stabilisation methods for non-alcoholic beverages, contributed to a better understanding of technical issues. Besides, during this March session, the TECHNO group opened a new field: the evaluation of the environmental impact of oenological practices.
