[Feedback #EVENTS] 🌬️🌊 Offshore Wind Energy Conferences in Portugal 🇵🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸 🔷 Early this week, our team members present at the Portugal Renewable Energy Summit #PRES2024 organised by APREN - Associação Portuguesa de Energias Renováveis appreciated the offshore round table, the business discussions and the presence of the Minister for Environment and Energy, Maria Da Graça Carvalho. It was the occasion for the Portuguese Government to confirm the objective of 2 GW of floating offshore wind by 2030. A call for tender in a 2-stage process should be launched very soon! [📸 1-4] 🔷 Happening today, the III Congreso Eólico Marino #EólicaMarina organised by AEE Asociación Empresarial Eólica gathers 400 professionals from the renewable marine energies. After the recent confirmation from the Spanish Government, 3 GW of floating offshore should be deployed by 2030, with a tender launched next year. [📸 5-7]

[Did you know❓] Floating Offshore Wind 🌬️🌊 x Electrical Transmission⚡️ ⚡️The #transmission system is one of the technical challenges for #offshore #wind farms - bottom-fixed and floating. It includes cables, offshore substation(s) and the onshore substation. During the different phases of planning, development, installation and operations of an offshore wind farm, cables are key components for power produced by the turbines to #transport #electricity from offshore to onshore transmission #grid. Electrical cables must be well-designed and robust to handle the significant power flow. 2 types of #cables are needed for an offshore wind farm: 🔌 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 are used to transfer the power generated from the wind turbines to an offshore substation ; ↪️ For floating offshore wind, the array cables are 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰, meaning that they are designed to be more robust to follow and support the motion of the floating unit caused by wind, waves and current. and 🔌 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 are used to then transfer the power at a higher voltage from the offshore substation to an onshore substation before connecting to the public onshore transmission grid. And to help the dynamic cables sustain fatigue, a number of accessories is generally used, such as : bend stiffeners, buoyancy modules, tethered anchors, abrasion protection…  Export cables are generally buried few meters under the seabed. ❔ Do you want to exchange more on the grid infrastructure topic? Feel free to get in touch with our electrical grid expert, Yoann Regnault. He will also participate at the Baltic Offshore #Transmission #Conference taking place on November 7th in #Warsaw.

Vivement SIG 2025 !   #OffshoreWind #Renewables #ESRI #Geomatic

[Did you know❓] Floating Offshore Wind🌬️🌊 x Anchors ⚓ Floating wind turbines have by definition no bottom-fixed foundations, however the floating sub-structure is moored to the seabed with anchors. So the wind turbines stay at the planned locations ⬇️ Different anchor types exist: 💠gravity (deadweight) anchors 💠piles, hammer-driven or vibrated - or drilled and grouted 💠drag embedment (or embedded) anchors 💠suction piles 💠dynamically installed piles or plate anchors 💠vertically loaded plate anchors (dragged in place or suction-installed) ⚓The choice of the anchor technology and quantity are determined by the soil characteristics, the mooring system type and configuration (taut, semi-taut, catenary, shared…), design loads, the environmental impact and project constraints. Anchors are connected to the floating sub-structure by mooring lines or ropes. ⚙️Anchors are a mature technology, however innovations are still being deployed for the design and the installation process. Research & development is being conducted on micro pile, suction pile with removal/reusable top cap, helical anchors… Another example of R&D at the moment is about solutions to reduce the number of anchors, by sharing anchors between several floating units. 💡 If you want to know all about anchors for floating wind, including state-of-the-art design recommendations and standard site characterisation requirements, you can access the following document recently published by CFMS (Comité Français de Mécanique des Sols et de Géotechnique), the French organisation of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE): https://lnkd.in/ebChfnyJ 🥽 Curious about #floating offshore wind?📣Stay tuned for further insights and follow Oxan Energy's page to learn more!  📸Source: Efthimiou et al. 2023 in International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Floating Offshore Wind Outlook Report WORLD FORUM OFFSHORE WIND (WFO)
