5R Solutions for a Circular Textile Economy

À propos

SOLSTICE addresses key social and technical challenges within the textile industry. Through active demonstration in four European regions, the project showcases the implementation of climate-neutral practices and the transition towards a circular economy specifically tailored for the textile sector. Our comprehensive approach encompasses all stages of waste prevention and management, guided by a holistic 5R strategy: Refuse/Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose, and Recycle. The SOLSTICE project supports sustainable growth in the textiles sector by raising customer awareness, enhancing recycling with new sorting methods, ensuring feedstock traceability using the Digital Product Passport, and providing data and guidelines to decision-makers. SOLSTICE is a Horizon Europe project, funded by the European Union. It started on 1 May 2024 and will last for 42 months. It receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the grant agreement No. 101134989.

🔔 Calling all Berlin-based #Textile #Reuse, #Repair, and #Recycling Actors! In a world where linear economies dominate, sustainable business models that focus on preserving resources face significant challenges. How is it that producing low-quality, short-lived clothing under poor labor conditions, harming the environment, remains more profitable than offering services that preserve and extend the life of textiles? We believe that reuse and repair should not only be environmentally essential but also economically attractive. As part of the SOLSTICE project, we're working to address exactly that: 🔍 Identify and understand the challenges faced by reuse & repair actors in Berlin 🤝 Foster cooperation and test potential solutions together ♻️ Boost local resource flows and make reuse processes financially sustainable We're excited to kick off our first stakeholder workshop on next Thursday 24.10.2024 with TECHTERA, focused on developing a tool that supports all Reuse, Repair, and Recycle stakeholders in Berlin. Our goal? Create a tool that makes reuse value chains viable and sustainable! To achieve this, we need you, the key players, to help guide the development of this tool. Your input will help:  ✅ Build a demand-led, coordinated value chain ✅ Harmonise collaboration between social economy and industry players ✅ Simulate technological and logistical scenarios for cost estimation Are you a second-hand shop owner, run a tailoring business, or work in textile recycling? Do you often feel like you're tackling these challenges alone? 💡 We want to hear from you! Tell us about your real needs and challenges, so we can build a solution that works for you. Let’s collaborate and shape the future of textile sustainability together! Join us in creating a local system that not only preserves our textiles but also supports your business growth. Let's build this together! We’ve just wrapped up an incredible two-day #ECOSYSTEXconference in Milan, Italy, where industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers came together to discuss the final results of 4 European projects - TRICK Project, HEREWEAR, my-fi and SCIRT Project - and more broadly the role of EU research in creating a sustainable circular textile supply chains 🧵🌍 We were honoured to start the event with updates from the European Commission on the latest regulations, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, and Horizon Europe opportunities for 2025-2027. The conference then featured not only interactive sessions on digital product passports, sustainable materials, and circular business models. The engaging discussions, throughout the workshops, panels and exhibition, sparked lively debates on how to advance circularity in textiles, from bio-based materials to local manufacturing models. The conference wrapped up with an exclusive tour of Accenture Customer Innovation Network, and with a visit of Decathlon 's warehouse in Basiano, where participants got to eye-witness innovative and circular solutions. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to not only all the speakers and attendees for their invaluable contributions, but to our partners Sistema Moda Italia, Accenture and UniCredit for their support. Finally, we are grateful to TRICK Project, HEREWEAR, my-fi and SCIRT Project for showcasing their results on textile traceability, eco-design, and biofabrication, highlighting how technology and creativity are reshaping the industry. Stay tuned on the ECOSYSTEX LinkedIn page to receive the latest news and update about the community and its 40+ project members!
