As part of the EU LIFE TREATS project, Lenzing Group and Södra have created a guide for designers and brands to enable circularity in textiles. The purpose of "Enabling Circularity - A designer's guide to fiber recyclability" is to share their experience of textile recycling, as well as its opportunities and limitations. Södra and Lenzing have a history of working together for over 10 years, developing textile pulp, and processes of textile recycling ♻️ Read the guide ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/dGm5zzpE

The European Community of Practice for a Sustainable Textile Ecosystem
About us
With 40+ EU-funded member projects focusing on textile sustainability, ECOSYSTEX, the European Community of Practice for a Sustainable Textile Ecosystem, has been formally launched in early 2023, with a mission to accelerate collaboration in the textile sustainability and circularity field. Facilitated by the Textile ETP, and with support from the European Commission’s Research Executive Agency (REA), the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and the Circular-Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking, this new network of textile circularity projects aims to create a long-term community of practice, ensuring collaboration across project consortia and lasting beyond the individual projects’ durations.

More big news from SCIRT! Today, we are proud to bring you the #TrueCostCalculator, a tool that comes from collaborative work with VITO, Flanders DC and the other SCIRT partners. It is a self-assessment tool, developed to empower fashion professionals in efficiently measuring, comparing, and minimizing the environmental and social impact of garments across their lifecycle. Created as part of the SCIRT project, The True Cost Calculator builds upon and enhances existing frameworks for evaluating the environmental and social costs of textiles. One of the most important features of the True Cost Calculator is its integration of financial, environmental, and social dimensions, monetizing the external costs associated with the lifecycle of clothing. Join us on Friday 8 November for a special edition of our Insights Series! 🎉 Why special? Because it will be the first public dissemination webinar of ECOSYSTEX's technical working groups! In the working groups, experts from across Europe that work in EU-funded projects on textile sustainability and circularity come together to exchange knowledge and collaborate across projects. ♻️ This webinar will feature a presentation by ECOSYSTEX TG2 on Assessment of Different Recycling Technologies & End-of-Life Options, that will present an update of their efforts related to, firstly, collecting a list of relevant publications and reports about textile recycling technologies and, secondly, making an overview of current and emerging textile recycling technologies and EoL options. 🌿 ECOSYSTEX TG4 on Renewable Materials & Standards will present what they have worked on during 2024, namely an overview of the availability of renewable materials and standards for testing, characterising and evaluating them. Last week, at the #ECOSYSTEXConference in Milan, our project partner Traci Kinden from TEXroad presented the latest developments from PESCO-UP. Traci updated the participants on the latest proposed minimum data requirements for recycling, focusing on the significance of feedstock data. She also explored multi-purpose data flows, demonstrating how robust data systems can help align supply and demand within the textile recycling marketplace. The presentation highlighted the critical role of transparent data exchange in meeting precise material specifications and streamlining recycling operations.

This week, a group of our Circular & Biobased Textiles Innovation Hub members had the privilege of attending the #ECOSYSTEXconference in Milan, Italy! 🎉 The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry pioneers, researchers, and policymakers to dive into key topics like textile traceability, eco-design, and biofabrication. Attendees also got an inside look at the final outcomes of four ECOSYSTEX member projects, TRICK Project, HEREWEAR, my-fi, and SCIRT Project, showcasing how EU-funded research is driving the transformation toward sustainable, circular textile supply chains. The conference went beyond presentations, offering interactive sessions and an exhibition on digital product passports, sustainable materials, and circular business models, fuelling new ideas on advancing circularity in textiles, from bio-based innovations to local production models. A special highlight was the exclusive tour of the Accenture Customer Innovation Network and a visit to Decathlon Italia's warehouse in Basiano, where participants witnessed cutting-edge, circular solutions in action 🌿

Two days in Milan to share HEREWEAR Project results at the ECOSYSTEX conference. Industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers came together to discuss - and touch! - the results of our project alongside three other EU-funded projects - TRICK Project, my-fi and SCIRT Project. The passionate discussions and questions that arose in the HEREWEAR and networking sessions will help our partners with further research and uptake. Working within the frameworks provided by the European Commission, the four projects have in common the desire to develop more bio-based materials, more circular business models, more traceable products and more reliable data. Of particular note: *Breakthroughs in biofabrication involve collaboration with nature to create textiles, as seen in My Fi *Recycled materials have now reached a level of quality that makes them equal or better alternatives as we saw in the samples produced of a luxury wool coat by Fratelli Piacenza S.p.A. (Piacenza Cashmere) and a technical suit by GRASSI 1925 . *Robots do a great job improving recycling (see developments by SCIRT) *A major challenge to consider is “biosphere integrity” as explained by SPIN 360 *New business models are being put into practise by major producers like Decathlon as we saw in a tour of their facility. We’d like to thank Textile ETP for creating the Ecosystex collaboration and its brilliantly organised conference, and the event sponsors Sistema Moda Italia, Accenture Italia and UniCredit for the excellent location and practical elements that encouraged an environment of productive exchange.
