Major contract to contribute to water security for Jordanians💧 The consortium led by Meridiam-SUEZ with a group of international and regional partners has won a major contract in Jordan to build the second largest desalination plant in the world 🌊.   It will supply drinking water to 3 million people in the cities of Amman and Aqaba, with a capacity of 851,000 m3/day. This represents 40% of the country's drinking water production.   The 30-year contract covers the construction of the plant, which will desalinate water from the Red Sea in the Gulf of Aqaba and distribute it to Aqaba and Amman via a 445 km pipeline network.   This ambitious project, which represents an investment of around €4 billion, is a concrete response to the challenges of climate change and rapid population growth, which are increasing pressure on water resources in Jordan, one of the most water-stressed regions in the world.

As climate change increases the risk of extreme weather events, how can we adapt and protect critical infrastructure? In France, we have assessed the risk of natural events for the 150 largest drinking water and wastewater facilities we operate. And by 2027, we will have developed an action plan for 100% of the priority sites we operate. #SUEZSustainableStories 🍃
