Our #IRIDE Costellation puzzle is coming together at our Satellite Integration Center in Rome!  🛰️ The development of the IRIDE constellation has taken a decisive step forward, marking the completion of the Check Point2 Review. Like assembling a complex puzzle, our teams have been meticulously fitting each piece together, starting to bring this ambitious program to life. Today, we celebrate the key steps: · PCDU Successfully Delivered: the Power Control and Distribution Unit (PCDU) has passed rigorous testing, meeting all specifications. It has now arrived in Rome, ready for integration into the Electric and Power System (EPS) Tray. · uCMG successfully delivered: the micro Control Momentum Gyro have been delivered after the successful integration of the EMA - Electro-Mechanical Assembly and the ECB - Electronic Control Board developed by Thales Alenia Space at Milan facilities. · Units installation on TRAY: with precision and dedication, our team has successfully installed the first PCDU and the Battery Modules unit into the EPS Tray, as well as the uCMG and MTB on the AOCS Tray. All Trays, mechanical structures realized using the metallic Additive Manufacturing technology, were already successfully assembled at Thales Alenia Space.   The all-Italian IRIDE is one of Europe’s most ambitious Earth Observation programs, with Thales Alenia Space leading the construction of 13 satellites – SAR and Optical - in collaboration with an extensive network of SMEs in the space sector. Supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan and managed by the European Space Agency - ESA alongside the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, this program will provide unparalleled insights into environmental monitoring, resource management, and sustainability. IRIDE will use a range of remote sensing instruments and technologies, from microwave radar imaging to optical sensors operating across various spatial resolutions and frequency bands. This is just the beginning - our journey continues. Stay tuned as we move forward, step by step, toward this groundbreaking mission!   #SpaceforLife Thales Leonardo

  • 🚀 Thales Alenia Space’s Space Business Catalyst was delighted to bring together the 5 startups newly accelerated at its Toulouse site during its first Community Day of the year in January. The event took place alongside the ongoing #ventures, the internal startup concept initiated 11 years ago by the company’s Innovation Cluster.   By bringing together the expertise, agility and innovation capabilities of both a major industry player and startups, the Space Business Catalyst creates a unique environment where collaboration drives the development of tomorrow’s space solutions. We are thus currently exploring the future of #Event Based Sensors for Space Situational Awareness and Local Space Surveillance use cases with the startup #Optera, a spin-off from Australia's Western Sydney University. We are investigating the potential of #hybrid propulsion systems for in-orbit operations with the UK-based startup Applied Atomics. With KINETIK Space, a DLR spin-off based in Munich, we are working on the future of #robotics operations in orbit as part of On-Orbit Services. With LEOBLUE based in Toulouse, we're looking together how we could deploy a global alert network from space using #Bluetooth technology. With ROVIAL Space in France, we are considering the future of in-orbit robotics assembly for #hyper-power satellites thanks to AI-enabled space #robots. Finally, with #Madari, based in the UAE, we are exploring the future of #Space Based Data Centers leveraging the experience acquired through the #ASCEND study!   On this occasion, our newcomers were able to meet members of the Space Business Catalyst alumni community, with special thanks to SpaceLocker and 3IPK for their presence and sharing of experience! They will soon be joined by other startups arriving from all over the world, while our Space Business Catalyst hub in Turin has already welcomed its inaugural startups set to shape Space Exploration and address the challenges of On-Orbit Services.   As such, we are developing with Lunar Resources Registry cost-efficient solutions, from sampling regolith, to potentially deploy light Lunar landers. With Evolunar, we are supporting exploration with lunar drones while with Kurs Orbital we are investigating the development of Rendez-vous & Docking Systems. Two other startups bring disruptive technologies to the table: #Oris which enables In-Space #recharging via high power laser and PERSEI Space which provides propulsion-less de-orbiting system. We are also pursuing the acceleration of Orbital Matter, previously accelerated in Toulouse, to bring to reality In-Space #3D-manufacturing.   Thales Leonardo Herve DERREY Delphine Knab Christophe Valorge Laura Berneri Cedric Balty Vincent C. 🚀 Earlier today, the last 5 #Kinéis nanosatellites were successfully orbited from New Zealand, by Rocket Lab. That makes five! Five batches including each 5 nanosatellites! Today's launch represents an incredible milestone for French and European space sector, as the 25 Kinéis nanosatellites are now all in orbit. Kinéis is the first European constellation of nanosatellites fully dedicated to the Internet of Things #IoT. Congratulations to all the actors who have contributed to this stunning program that will for sure make history ⤵️ 👏 👍 Kinéis Centre National d'Études Spatiales CLS Group (Collecte Localisation Satellites) Bpifrance HEMERIA Thales Alenia Space Comat Cegedim SYRLINKS Cobham STEEL Electronique EREMS Sodern Safran Exail Scalian Good to know ⤵️ The constellation is operated by Kinéis, a Toulouse-based company created in 2018 with the support of CLS (Collecte Localisation Satellites), the French Space Agency CNES and Bpifrance. At the heart of this constellation, Thales Alenia Space is system architect and responsible for building the payloads. Hardware development is subcontracted to Syrlinks. Hemeria is responsible for development of the platform (solar panels and harnesses manufactured in-house), integration and production engineering for the nanosatellites. CNES is providing the satellite command and control center and assisting with constellation operations as an integrated team until full handover to the Kinéis teams in 2025. CLS will deliver value-added services based on data from the constellation. A wide range of upcoming applications ⤵️ The resulting IoT applications include near real-time tracking and monitoring of millions of objects, rapid alerts and transmission of data to end-users in areas of major importance for humans, human activity and the environment, such as natural disaster prevention (detection of forest fires, floods, drought, pollution...), agriculture, traceability of wild and farmed animals, infrastructure and energy network monitoring and oversight of transport and logistics, as well as commercial and scientific maritime activities. The potential applications are vast, with benefits including risk reduction, anticipation of breakdowns and optimization of activities. Today we have celebrated with our teams in Madrid a truly remarkable achievement for Thales Alenia Space in Spain marked by the successful launch of #SpainSatNG1 satellite back on 29 January 2025. The SPAINSAT NG program led by the Spanish satellite operator Hisdesat Servicios Estratégicos is one of the most advanced satcom systems in Europe & in the world, and will provide secure communications services to the Spanish Armed Forces and other governmental users. This program has been a transformative experience for Thales Alenia Space in Spain and the Spanish space industry at large. Our teams in Madrid have led the development of the UHF and Ka-band payloads of the 2 geostationary satellites, including the integration and test of the Communications Module of both satellites at our satellite AIT facilities in Tres Cantos. Congratulations to the team for successfully achieving this great challenge!
