🌍 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻: 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 🌱 Achieving climate targets is not limited to companies' direct operations alone. In fact, Scope 3 emissions often account for more than 90% of GHG emissions, according to the CDP. To ignore this scope is to risk missing the target. However, decarbonising the value chain is a complex challenge, not least because of the difficulty of accurately measuring scope 3 emissions. Two methodologies stand out for meeting this challenge: 📈 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 (𝗟𝗖𝗔) 📊 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 Although each has its advantages and disadvantages, it remains essential to adopt a rigorous approach to identify the main sources of emissions and implement effective reduction actions. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗲𝘂𝘃𝗿𝗲. 🌍 𝗘𝗦𝗥𝗦 𝗘𝟭 - 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗦𝗥𝗗 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 With the first CSRD reports due to be published next year, we'd like to take a look back at the ESRS-E1, the key ESRS in this new extra-financial reporting format. Dedicated to climate change, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗦𝗥𝗦 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆, because whatever your activity, there's a good chance that it will have an impact, however small, on the climate. Moreover, this is the only ESRS for which you will have to provide a detailed, well-argued justification if you consider that you do not need to complete it following your materiality analysis. This standard marks a turning point in the way companies must address climate change: ☑️ 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: ESRS E1 requires detailed reporting on greenhouse gas emissions and climate mitigation strategies. ☑️ 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Companies must identify and assess potential climate risks that could affect their operations. ☑️ 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: ESRS E1 encourages companies to adopt long-term goals to reduce their carbon footprint and align with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. ☑️ 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: This standard requires companies to examine their entire supply chain, ensuring that every link adheres to climate guidelines. ☑️ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: The ESRS E1 standard requires companies to measure the financial impact of climate change and their transition plan, from a risk and opportunity perspective. 🇪🇺 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. But while European legislation on environmental transition is like a huge jigsaw puzzle, each piece is important. The climate law is the centrepiece, defining the general framework. Around it, other pieces fit together to form a coherent picture: 🧩 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆, which defines sustainable economic activities 🧩 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗦𝗥𝗗 (𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲), which imposes new ESG reporting obligations 🧩 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗙𝗗𝗥 (𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻), which provides a framework for sustainable finance 🧩 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗦𝟯𝗗 (𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲), which imposes a duty of vigilance with regard to human rights and the environment. How do you find your way through this maze of legislation? Here's a guide to help you untangle the maze and understand how the various regulations fit together to promote transparency and commitment to the issue of climate change 🌱 To find out more, read our latest article 👇 https://lnkd.in/e8ZJfRaU #ClimateLaw #ESG #CSRD #SFDR #GreenTaxonomy

✈️ 𝗘𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗲́𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗲́𝘃𝗲́𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗱'𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗲́𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗹'𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲 𝗹'𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘂𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗷𝗲𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗲𝘂𝗿. Greenhushing is a tendency for companies to remain silent about their ecological initiatives for fear of criticism or accusations of Greenwashing. This attitude, while understandable, can undermine the transparency and collective commitment needed for an effective ecological transition. 📉 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺? By concealing their environmental efforts, companies limit the spread of good practice and slow down the mutual inspiration needed for sustainable innovation. This can also lead to a lack of confidence or even mistrust among stakeholders: employees, customers, investors.... 🌱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁? There are many strategies for overcoming this bias. 𝗟𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗶𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲 ?

🇪🇺 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 🌱 The European Union is firmly committed to the transition to a sustainable economy, adopting a series of legislative texts aimed at guiding companies and investors towards more responsible practices. Among these texts, the European climate law plays a central role, setting an ambitious target of carbon neutrality by 2050 🎯 To achieve this objective, the EU has put in place a series of complementary measures, including the now well-known 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗖𝗦𝗥𝗗). However, the CSRD does not stand in a vacuum. Numerous other legislative texts revolve around this directive, including: ▶ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗦𝗙𝗗𝗥), which provides a framework for green and sustainable financial products and requires financial players to be transparent about their ESG investments. ▶ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝟯 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which requires banks and other financial institutions to take ESG risks into account in their risk management. ▶ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which sets out rules for the construction and use of ESG benchmarks, to ensure their reliability and comparability. ▶ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆, which establishes a classification system for sustainable economic activities, enabling investors to easily identify green investments. ▶ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗖𝗦𝗗𝗗𝗗), which introduces the concept of due diligence into European human rights and environmental law. 🤔 𝗦𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿?
