As National Indigenous History Month draws to a close, we turn our attention to the fifth and final principle fundamental to our Indigenous agreements. Community Engagement: Our commitment extends beyond contracts to support community initiatives, events, and projects. Through these efforts, we contribute to meaningful work, deepen our understanding, and strengthen Indigenous partnerships. In 2023, we provided Indigenous partners with lumber for housing and infrastructure projects. Additionally, we supported Indigenous youth field trips and educational programs, investing in the next generation. Thank you for your support throughout National Indigenous History Month! One major element of our future success are the strong relationships we build with communities everywhere we operate, and in particular the work we do with our First Nation community partners. This is an ongoing journey that starts with reflection, learning and dialogue. As we celebrate National Indigenous History Month, I cannot emphasize enough the importance we place on deepening genuine collaboration, respect, and partnership. I have witnessed this commitment not only in Canada, but also in Australia and New Zealand where our teams are fostering meaningful dialogue and close collaboration with Traditional Owners and Indigenous groups. We aim to continue to build trust and acknowledge that such relationships are critical to the future we want to build for the generations to come. We want to continue to develop win-win partnership opportunities. #FindingBetterWays
We are grateful for the land we operate on and recognize the Indigenous Peoples who have been historically present on the territory. We strive to support Indigenous communities by contributing to social and economic outcomes while respecting their realities and culture. For more than a decade, we have partnered with Indspire, an Indigenous charity that focuses on education, delivering programs, sharing resources and providing financial rewards so Indigenous students can achieve their highest potential. We are intentional in our procurement to increase opportunities for local, Indigenous and diverse suppliers, ensuring that we contribute to the creation of new jobs and training for host communities in which we operate. Internally, we continue to create learning opportunities for our people to raise awareness about the history, culture, and rights of Indigenous Peoples. In 2023, we introduced new training programs to increase awareness of Indigenous cultures and realities, across all our Canadian sites. This year, we will host 4 events throughout the month for our teams to continue the learning journey. There is still work to be done. We recognize that establishing relationships grounded in trust, respect, and the acknowledgement of Indigenous Peoples’ rights is critical to a better future. #MoisNationalDeLHistoireAutochtone #MNHA2024

🌎 National Indigenous Peoples Day - June 21 🌿 Today, we honor and celebrate the diverse cultures, rich histories, and significant contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada. From a feminist lens, this day is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and leadership of Indigenous women and Two-Spirit individuals who have played a crucial role in their communities and beyond. Indigenous women have been at the forefront of advocating for land rights, environmental justice, and cultural preservation. Their leadership is not only a testament to their resilience but also a beacon of hope for sustainable futures. Indigenous feminists and activists are tirelessly working to address systemic inequalities, fight against gender-based violence, and seek justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). Their voices are vital in creating a more just and equitable society. Indigenous women and Two-Spirit folks are cultural guardians: The traditional knowledge and practices upheld by Indigenous women are essential to the preservation of cultural heritage. These traditions offer invaluable lessons in community well-being and sustainable living. On this day, let us commit to supporting and amplifying the voices of Indigenous women and Two-Spirit leaders, especially in tourism. It’s crucial that we stand in solidarity with their efforts and work together towards a future where justice and equity prevail. We at wmnsWORK want to take the space to recognize and honor the pivotal role of Indigenous women and Two-Spirit people in shaping a more inclusive and equitable world. Their contributions inspire us all to be better allies and advocates. Be generous and tag an Indigenous business leader in tourism below! 🙏 Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #IndigenousWomen #Leadership #FeministSolidarity #MMIWG #IndigenousFeminism #CulturalPreservation #DiversityAndInclusion #SustainableFuture #EquityAndJustice

Today, we come together as a nation to emphasize the importance of truth in creating a fair society. As professionals and leaders, we play a crucial role in this effort. This day reminds us of the painful history of residential schools, where Indigenous children were taken away from their families and culture. We honour the survivors, their strength, and remember those who tragically lost their lives. As we think about this dark past, let's commit to an ongoing journey of reconciliation. We can contribute by fostering inclusive workplaces, educating ourselves and our teams about Indigenous histories, and actively supporting initiatives that promote equality. These resources are a great starting point in educating ourselves: • https://lnkd.in/dM2DU3Jw • https://lnkd.in/gHrRzxkc • https://lnkd.in/euvPQ5uU Together, we can embrace diversity and work together for a equitable future, sending the message that "Every Child Matters." Let today show our determination, empathy, and shared dedication to building a better, more inclusive Canada for future generations. #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation #EveryChildMatters

Today, we unite with Indigenous communities worldwide 🌏, to recognize their incredible cultures, traditions, and immeasurable impact on humanity 🤝. This International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is a powerful reminder to safeguard their rights and dignity💪. As we celebrate diversity, we must also address the ongoing struggles faced by Indigenous communities, such as land rights, environmental issues, and social inequalities. Our commitment to justice and equality demands that we support their voices and amplify their concerns. Shocking statistics from United Nations reveal the harsh reality: 💔 Globally, 47% of all Indigenous Peoples in employment have no education, compared to 17% of their non-Indigenous counterparts. This gap is even wider for women. 💔 More than 86% of Indigenous Peoples globally work in the informal economy, compared to 66% for their non-Indigenous counterparts. 💔Indigenous Peoples are nearly three times as likely to be living in extreme poverty compared to their non-indigenous counterparts. Across BC, while only 6% of BC’s total population are Indigenous (according to the 2016 Census), about 40% of people experiencing homelessness self-identify as Indigenous. Indigenous individuals continue to experience homelessness at a massively disproportionate rate. At Covenant House Vancouver, in 2022: ... 💔 29% of the population we serve self-identify as being Indigenous 💔 67 Indigenous youth were new to our programs and services 💔 127 Indigenous youth accessed our Drop-In Centre and 179 Indigenous youth were supported by our Outreach teams 💔 45 Indigenous youth stayed in our Crisis Program 🌈 Embracing diversity means more than just words; it requires action. With nearly 1/3 of the youth population we serve being Indigenous, we have an obligation and responsibility to be able to provide holistic care, which may include spiritual and cultural supports. As an organization, we actively participate in educating ourselves and asking ourselves, “How can we do better?” Where we aren’t experts in our services, we connect with local organizations and additional Indigenous and cultural supports for the Indigenous youth who come to Covenant House. While commemorating the day, we share some ideas around how to call for equity and inclusion here: https://lnkd.in/gCZdJb4t #IndigenousDay #EmpowerIndigenous #CulturalDiversity #SocialJustice #TogetherWeThrive #IDWIP #Respect #Inclusion #StandTogether #GlobalCommunity
