🌍 What are the gaps and needs in addressing loss and damage in the Pacific? GGGI’s recent published technical report, Gaps and Needs in Addressing Loss and Damage: Insights from a Multi-Country Survey, sheds light on critical areas requiring immediate attention to enhance loss and damage efforts in climate-vulnerable Pacific countries. Through the SIDS Climate Action Program, GGGI Pacific coordinated a survey across the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Niue, and Palau. Key findings include: 💰 Financial Hurdles: Securing funding is tough due to limited access to international funds and tight domestic budgets. Simplifying access and fostering strategic partnerships can help. 🔍 Awareness and Understanding: Raising awareness about L&D is challenging due to competing priorities and lack of expertise. Building capacity and creating cross-sectoral strategies are essential. 📊 Data and Technological Gaps: Insufficient data and technology hinder our ability to measure and communicate L&D. We need comprehensive climate risk assessments and community impact surveys. 📜 Policies and Governance: The lack of effective regulations and policies impedes L&D initiatives. Support is needed to develop robust institutional frameworks and policies for better implementation. We’re grateful to be part of this journey! Climate Analytics Africa conduit pour le NDC Partnership, une série de six sessions régionales de renforcement des capacités sur le #financement de l'adaptation au changement climatique, spécialement conçues pour les experts des ministères de tutelle des pays d'Afrique francophone. Ces derniers sont confrontés à des défis considérables pour accéder au financement climatique notamment: 😟 une budgétisation publique complexe et des processus de demande de projet rigoureux 📈 la difficulté d'accès à des subventions plutôt qu'à des prêts pour éviter d'alourdir le fardeau de la dette 🔬 le manque de données scientifiques sur le climat et les besoins en matière d'adaptation 🌐 les organismes internationaux se concentrent davantage sur l'atténuation que sur l'adaptation 🏛 les fonds travaillent principalement en anglais, ce qui constitue un obstacle pour les pays francophones. 🌍 New Research Alert! 🌏 How can we better integrate relational values—emotional, cultural, and ethical connections to nature—into climate adaptation strategies? Our latest study, published in Ecosystems and People, examines this question in the context of the Solomon Islands and Bangladesh. We compared tools like Willingness to Pay (WTP) and government budget preferences to assess how people value their relationship with nature. 📊 Key Findings: 1️⃣ WTP struggles to capture the depth of relational values. 2️⃣ Government budget preferences better reflect cultural and emotional connections, especially in Bangladesh.
