🌍 Kiribati Sets Sail Towards a Climate-Resilient Future with Groundbreaking Finance Strategy 🌊 The Climate Finance Division in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) recently launched the Kiribati National Climate Finance Strategy (KNCFS), and Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA) in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Pacific Community (SPC). This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing Kiribati’s capacity to access international climate finance. 🤝 🔑 Why This Matters:  - The KNCFS provides a clear roadmap for securing essential funds to combat climate change, focusing on critical areas such as land reclamation, coastal protection, food security, renewable energy, and water & sanitation.    - This KNCFS is vital for Kiribati’s survival and prosperity in the face of rising sea levels and extreme weather events. 🌊 💬 "This strategy isn’t just about access to funding, it's about building a stronger, more resilient Kiribati for future generations," said Koin Uriam-Kiritione, Secretary of MFED. "With this framework, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to adapting, mitigating, and building resilience against climate change."    💡 Emphasis on Collaboration:  - The collaboration with GGGI and SPC is crucial for climate finance pipeline prioritization and the identification of institutional gaps and ensuring Kiribati is prepared to tap into global climate funds. 💬 “Together, we’re strengthening Kiribati’s capacity to access much-needed climate finance,” stated Ruth Phillips Itty, Director of the Climate Finance Division.      🌱 The Road Ahead:  - Over the next few weeks, consultations will continue to gather input from various sectors, ensuring the KNCFS reflects the diverse needs of the nation.    - The government aims to finalize and validate the KNCFS results by the end of November, guiding future climate investments and policy strengthening. Key Outcomes Expected:  ✅ Enhanced understanding of climate finance landscapes and mechanisms  ✅ Identification of sectoral priorities and climate finance investment projects  ✅ Improvement in the institutional coordination and prioritization of resources for climate investments    Kam Rabwa (Thank You) to all our partners for your support! 🚗 Empowering Papua New Guinea to Combat Transport Emissions! 🌍 Buckle up, PNG! We’re steering towards a greener future with the recent GHG Emission Modelling Training, held on October 8-9, 2024. This innovative workshop, organized by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in partnership with the Department of Transport (DoT) and the Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA), is set to revolutionize how we tackle transport emissions in PNG! With road transport currently contributing 23% of Papua New Guinea's energy-related emissions and is projected to double by 2030, we can’t afford to sit back and do nothing. Participants learned to use a dynamic, Excel-based Road Transport Emission Model that tracks vehicle emissions and energy consumption, equipping them to develop effective strategies that will promote the use of Electronic Vehicles (EVs) in PNG for its environmental, economic savings and health benefits which will reduce emissions right here in our communities. 💡 “The hands-on approach has been a game-changer,” shared Sent Raiya from DoT. “We’re now equipped to take the wheel and drive our policies towards carbon neutrality!” William Lakain, General Manager for Monitoring, Reporting, Verification, and National Communication at CCDA, added, “This emission model will help us effectively monitor our emissions situation in PNG and make informed decisions to reduce it over time in our expanding transport sector. This is a pivotal step in our transition toward a low-emission economy and a cleaner and more sustainable future for PNG. This workshop brought together visionaries from DoT, CCDA, National Energy Authority (NEA), and Road Traffic Authority (RTA), fostering collaboration and inspiring data-driven decisions to shape a sustainable transport landscape. 🌱 Part of the “Promoting Electric Mobility in Papua New Guinea” initiative, this training directly supports PNG’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) obligation and target under the Paris Agreement to reduce emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Vili Caniogo from GGGI PNG highlighted, “This model not only tracks our progress but also paves the way for EVs in PNG!” As we shift gears towards a sustainable future, the collaboration among DoT, CCDA, NEA, RTA, and GGGI will ensure that this emission model becomes integral to our strategy for a cleaner, greener PNG. 🌍✨ Link: https://lnkd.in/gRjeb72u #GHGEmissions #ClimateAction #SustainableTransport #PapuaNewGuinea #GreenGrowth #GGGI #ClimateChange #ElectricMobility #DataDriven #CapacityBuilding

🌺 Alii from Palau! 🌍✨ 🌊 Exciting developments! GGGI recently hosted a workshop for the Palau Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT). Held on October 22, 2024, this event bought together national stakeholders to refine the design of a proposed project that focuses on strengthening Palau’s capacity to transparently track and report on the implementation of its national Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). This initiative is set to enhance Palau’s institutional, technical and human capacities to meet the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework requirements.   What is CBIT?  The Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) in Article 13 of the Paris Agreement is crucial for monitoring NDC progress. The Capacity-Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT), backed by the Global Environment Facility, helps developing countries build capacities for effective tracking and reporting of climate actions and commitments. CBIT is important because it 👇   🏗️📈 Enhances Accountability: It helps countries effectively track and report their climate actions, ensuring accountability in meeting commitments under the Paris Agreement. 📊🤝 Builds Capacity: CBIT strengthens institutional, technical, and human resources, empowering countries to manage climate data and transparency processes. 🔍 🎯 Promotes Transparency: By improving data collection and reporting mechanisms, CBIT fosters transparency in climate action, which is essential for trust among nations. 🌱💪 Facilitates Climate Resilience: Enhanced transparency leads to better-informed decisions and policies, ultimately supporting countries in adapting to and mitigating climate change impacts. 🌎Supports Global Goals: By aligning national efforts with global climate objectives, CBIT contributes to the overall effectiveness of international climate agreements. The Workshop Highlights:  - Project Context & Rationale: We explored the importance of transparency in climate action. - Challenges & Barriers: Addressed key hurdles to effective implementation.  Relevant Policies: Discussed frameworks like the Palau Climate Change Policy and the National Environment Management Strategy. - Project Overview: Outlined the project components and structure.    The project aims to achieve the following outcomes:  1) Establish institutional arrangements for the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) for regular and transparent reporting on NDCs and National GHG Inventory. 2) Create a GHG inventory preparation system for efficient and accurate production of National GHG inventories. 3) Strengthen the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) framework to improve Palau's monitoring and reporting on climate actions and support.   The project, led by the Office of Climate Change, Government of Palau and GGGI in partnership with UNEP, has a 48-month implementation period expected to begin in Q2-Q3 of 2025. SULANG to all our partners and supporters !!💚
