✈️ ️From Europe to Africa, the Americas and Asia, the iconic faces of the L’Oréal-UNESCO #ForWomenInScience 2024 laureates illuminated major airports across all continents this summer. With more than 760 screens in 9 international airports across 8 different countries, the campaign celebrated the international laureates and their breakthrough research. 🇫🇷 Prof. Geneviève Almouzni from France, awarded for detecting genetic incidents responsible for cancer emergence. 🇨🇦 Prof. Nada Jabado from Canada, awarded for making major advances in pedriatic brain cancer research. 🇧🇷 Prof. Alicia Kowaltowski from Brazil, awarded for her outstanding work on the role of energy metabolism in chronic diseases. 🇨🇲 Prof. Rose Leke from Cameroon, awarded for her contribution in treating malaria in pregnant women and her efforts toward eradicating polio. 🇨🇳 Prof. Nieng Yan from China, awarded for her work on membrane transport in the treatment of neurological disorders. With UNESCO, we’ve supported more than 4,400 women researchers from over 140 countries since 1998 - recognizing scientific excellence and inspiring younger generations of women to pursue science as a career. In 2023, we launched the Women Climate Collective (WCC), an initiative designed to empower emerging women leaders driving climate action. We're proud to have already supported 36 inspiring women in India, fostering a growing network of influential voices dedicated to addressing the climate crisis. Congratulations to EcoSattva and co-founder Natasha Zarine, a #WomenClimateCollective leader, on winning the prestigious 2024 St Andrews Prize for the Environment for their Kham River Restoration Mission in India! This international award recognizes significant contributions to environmental sustainability and innovation. EcoSattva and its partners have implemented a truly remarkable project, rejuvenating the Kham River in Aurangabad and its surrounding ecosystem. The initiative’s impact is extensive, restoring 54 acres of riparian zones, impacting the lives of 25,000 households, and engaging over a million people in the process. Congratulations to Nidhi Pant, co-founder of S4S Technologiesand member of the Women Climate Collective, for making The Independent Climate 100 List 2024! This list features the world’s foremost environmentalists and recognizes Nidhi's impact in combating food waste, rural poverty and gender inequality in India. Nidhi joined the #WomenClimateCollective in 2023 and won the Earth Shot Prize the same year. Only 19% of delegations in COP climate negotiations are led by women. Recognizing the urgent need to elevate women's leadership in climate action, we partnered with The New York Times for a series of impactful initiatives during #ClimateWeekNYC. The partnership culminated in a compelling panel discussion that explored the critical role women play in driving climate solutions and the importance of ensuring their voices are heard at all levels of decision-making. Our Vice President, Alexandra Palt, led a powerful discussion with changemakers like Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, Nidhi Pant, Dr. Bridget Burns and Dr. Auma Obama, alongside 120+ inspiring leaders. Together we discussed: ✅ Overcoming obstacles to advance women-led climate solutions ✅ Scaling up gender-inclusive approaches for a greener future ✅ Leveraging women's leadership to drive more effective climate action By providing women with mentorship and resources, such as the Women Climate Collective program in India, we empower women to become key actors in their community and shape a more sustainable future.
