【YIAA Empowering Youth - Expanding Social Impact】 The "Youth ImpACT Award" was co-initiated by BGCA and The D. H. Chen Foundation in 2016, aiming to encourage young people to participate in building a better society. Over the years, the program has witnessed the growth of the participants, and that their passion and creativity have contributed to the birth of new ideas driven by empathy, bringing fresh perspectives to solve social problems. Now, YIAA has evolved and grown into YIAA 3.0, where The D. H. Chen Foundation is the Founding Partner. This video features Tsz Kong, Bono Yeung, our Supervisor (CDD), and Ms. Ruby Yong, Program Director of The D. H. Chen Foundation who have worked closely together on planning and promoting YIAA. As Growth Partners of YIAA, they reminisce about some key moments of the program, discuss their evolving perspectives on philanthropy, and share their vision for services. 【BGCA’s Small Group Home has been recognized as Outstanding Community Services】      We are deeply honored that our "Trauma Informed Care Model at the Small Group Home" won an award at the "The 6th Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Community Services Award"! Organized by Lions Clubs International D303, this award recognizes NGOs for their outstanding social services, and we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been assisting in this effort!      BGCA's Small Group Home provides home-like accommodation services to children and adolescents aged 4-18 who are not able to receive appropriate family care temporarily, with a special focus on trauma-informed care model. The trauma-informed care model is based on five key principles: safety, attachment, choice, rebuilding, and empowerment. Together with some micro skills such as family nurturing techniques, quality stimuli and children emotional management, we help children process and reshape their traumatic experiences, unlock their potential, and build a positive personal image and interpersonal relationships. 【Family Fun on Summer Movie Day】 On Saturday, July 20th, our event "Summer Movie Day: Despicable Me 4" at Amoy Plaza, sponsored by 恒隆地產, concluded successfully in a vibrant and joyful atmosphere. The event allowed low income families to enjoy an interesting movie and laugh along with the adorable Minions! After the screening, Hang Lung As One volunteers led participating families in the "Love Languages" parent-child workshop, which deepened the relationships among family members. 【Sweat It Out: Pillow Carnival for a Happy Heart!】      We are extremely honoured to have the support from @Tam Jai International Co. Limited, enabling BGCA’s 456 Chill Lab to successfully host the "Tam Jai International Pillow Carnival"! Tam Jai International's employees fully participated, teaming up with the youth to join the pillow contest. They also brought their popular Tam Jai delicacies, personally helping to set up and distribute them to the youth, bringing a sense of happiness to everyone! The pillow carnival aims to let current DSE students sweat it out and relieve their stress. The event also featured band performances and K-pop dance shows, allowing the youth to express their emotions and further elevate the atmosphere!      BGCA’s  456 Chill Lab has always provided students with relevant information, recreational activities, sharing sessions, and emotional support. A platform for everyone to encourage and fight side by side! It helps each student realise that there are many supportive peers and social workers around them. 【The Joyful Movie Night, "Inside Out 2" Charity Screening】   Nearly 300 participants attended the "Inside Out 2" Charity Screening" event, co-organised by the Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong and Tam Jai International Co. Limited 譚仔國際有限公司. Employees of Tam Jai International, foster parents from our "Children's Home" and BGCA staff were invited to enjoy a the educational and entertaining "Inside Out 2"premier session. During the event, the participants lit up the memory orbs , symbolising the light of hope that resides in everyone’s heart, also encouraging everyone to extend their love and compassion to the community. 🌟   Guest of honour Mr. Daren Lau, Chairman, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tam Jai International expressed the group is pleased to organise this meaningful event with BGCA. Not only does it provide an opportunity for participants to be among the first to enjoy the movie together, but the story also inspires all of us to prioritise mental health. 【Leaving Parents Behind: A Shopping Adventure for Kids!】    In preparation for Father's Day gifts and to surprise their dads, several 4-5-year-old children from BGCA’s “SMILE” On-site Pre-school Integrated Services (OPRS) ventured to the supermarket on their own, without parental accompaniment. They chose gifts, selected ingredients, wrapped presents, and even prepared snacks all by themselves!    Seeing each parent's satisfied expression upon receiving the gifts was heartwarming. However, the biggest surprise was witnessing the children complete their tasks independently, taking a significant step in their growth. Even the dads were amazed, saying, "The kids' abilities really exceeded our expectations," and "I never thought they could do it without fussing..."    Shopping at the supermarket is a great social adaptation training. Children can enrich their life experiences, enhance their cognition and adapt to the community. In the process of communicating with staff and paying, they can personally experience the community environment, improve their language and social skills. Making snacks and wrapping gifts can train children's fine motor skills and is a great opportunity to encourage them to express their feelings.    Lastly, we extend our gratitude to AEON for donating gift vouchers during the recent "Yellow Receipt Campaign", enabling the smooth execution of this event. We're delighted that both parents and children gained valuable experiences from this event. 【Day Camp Gathering Families' Smiling Faces, Conserve Tiny Moments of Joy】 In celebration of the "30th Anniversary of the International Year of Families", BGCA’s ICYSCs has organised a day camp event to bring families together. We aimed to create "we-time" for families through parent-child games and challenges, increasing opportunities for interaction. Children and parents show their strengths and accomplish tasks in the games, thus appreciating each other within the family and fostering positive parent-child relationships. Every family and every smiling face are precious, so we have prepared another surprise! We have invited sketch illustrator Erin L. @ Wahayeah Sketch Group to speed sketch during the event, capturing moments of happiness through artworks. We hope this activity will remind everyone of the importance of quality parent-child time and how we can turn every moment spent together into a tiny moment of joy. 【Center Visit of BGCA JC Parent Wellness Project】 What a joy having our esteemed guests at JC Parent Wellness Centre! We had the honour of hosting Mr. Freely Cheng (Head of External Affairs, HKJC), Ms. Susanna L. (General Manager, External Affairs, HKJC), Mr. Henry Fung (Senior Manager, Charities, HKJC), from our long established partner Hong Kong Jockey Club, alongside with numerous guests Mr. Steven CHEUNG (Assistant District Officer of Wan Chai of Wan Chai District Office Home Affairs Department), Mr. Lam Wai-kong, MH (Chairperson of WCDC Traffic and Transport Committee), Ms. Lau Pui-shan, MH (Chairperson of WCDC District Facilities and Works Committee), Dr. Chow Kam-wai, BBS, MH (Vice-chairperson of WCDC Community Involvement, Culture and Recreation Committee), Ms. Mok Ruby (Vice-chairperson of WCDC Food, Environment and Hygiene Committee) from various government departments. The tour visit started with a welcoming greeting from Mr. Freely Cheng and a project overview by BGCA. Then it unfolded into two experiential activities "Coffee Art” and “Fashion Remade and Print Art” guided by parent mentors for guest participation. The former teaches parents how to brew Italian coffee and make stunning latte art, while the latter encourages parents to step out of their comfort zone and transform old clothing into a work of art. During the center tour, we also shared key project milestones and features with our guests in our sharing session. The center visit not only strengthened our professional relationship but also allowed us to showcase our work environment and culture. It feels wonderful when guests appreciates our services, their positive feedback and enthusiastic participation made the occasion extraordinarily special. Last but not least, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved for making this project a success. 【Fam Fun Sketch captures heartwarming moments, preserving moments of family happiness forever】     In celebration of the "30th Anniversary of the International Year of Families", BGCA has been hosting family themed activities throughout the year! Recently, the JC Parent Wellness Project hosted the Carnival & Exhibition. In addition to joint activities for parents and children, families came together to brainstorm and create heartwarming moments. The market also gave parents and children the opportunity to become stall owners, showcasing their handmade crafts, serving coffee, twisting balloons, etc. Creating a festive atmosphere. In the exhibition, mothers stepped out of their comfort zones to transform old clothes into works of art, showcasing the creative process and the achievements of so many people along the way.    Throughout the event, surprises were prepared for different families. Speed sketch illustrator Moving Drawing was invited to secretly capture moments of joy. When families receive the artwork, there is a look of surprise and happiness. Through these drawings, shared trivial memories during the event were triggered, appreciation and praise were exchanged between family members. Each artwork serves as a record of warm moments for the family, preserved forever. 【Carrying family stories, opening up family whispers from the heart💬】 In the face of a constantly changing social environment, BGCA is committed to providing all-around child and youth services to support the evolving conditions of families in Hong Kong. In the last decade, the number of ethnic minority families has increased by more than 60%; while the number of students with special educational needs (SEN) has increased by more than double. Up till 2022, SEN students took up 11% of the overall student population in Hong Kong. In recognition of these trends and “the 30th Anniversary of International Year of Families", BGCA has kicked off the grand opening of the "Warm Buzzes from the Fridge – Family Whispers from the Heart" Workshop on 15th May 2024. The event collected stories from 109 families and represented them in art form to promote family harmony and community integration. The event not only received remarkable feedback from the community, it also gathered 80 family participants to witness this grand opening. Distinguished guests from different industries also presided over the opening ceremony, including Tang Ka-piu, BBS, JP, Member of the Legislative Council, Dr Wing Sai Jessica Tam, Business Director of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Prof. Lam Ching-man, MH, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of BGCA, Mr. Pak Sheung Chuen, Co-Founder of HASS Lab and Mr. CHAN Pik Fai, Deputy Executive Director of BGCA, who presided over the opening ceremony. The guests shared their insights and recommendations on the state of families in Hong Kong and the importance of family services. They emphasised the rights of children and the significance of supporting their development through effective communication. Representatives of families from different backgrounds shared their unique stories and needs, and guests responded to the sharing and exchanged views with the families. Seven refrigerator installations shown in the exhibition represent different kind of families in the community, showcasing various family nurturing and support services that BGCA provides in the community. These services aim to enhance the problem-solving abilities of families and help them build harmonious relationships with each other, so as to strengthen family bonding and unleash the power of families. 【雪櫃承載家庭故事 將心底話打開💬】 面對社會環境不斷變遷，本會致力提供全面服務支援不斷變化的家庭狀況。例如過去10年少種族裔家庭數目上升超過60%；同期，SEN的學生人數上升超過1倍；到了2022年，SEN學生佔整體學生11%。有見及此，亦響應「國際家庭年30周年」，本會於5月15日舉辦「雪櫃暖說話-打開家庭心底話」互動導賞工作坊啟動禮。 收集109個家庭的故事，並以藝術呈現，從而推動家庭和諧及社區共融。啟動禮得到社區熱烈迴響，超過80位參加者到場見證。出席的主禮嘉賓來自不同界別，包括：香港立法會議員鄧家彪先生，BBS，JP、香港社會服務聯會業務總監譚穎茜博士、香港小童群益會執行委員會副主席林靜雯教授，MH、HASS Lab共同創辦人白雙全先生，以及香港小童群益會副總幹事陳碧輝先生主持開幕儀式。 嘉賓就本港家庭狀況以及家庭服務的重要性分享見解和建議，強調以兒童權利為本，透過良好溝通方式扶持孩子成長。同場來自不同背景的家庭代表亦有分享他們家庭的獨特故事與需求，嘉賓亦就住家庭分享作出回應，積極交流。展場設有7部家庭雪櫃裝置，代表社區中不同類型的家庭，呈現機構在社區內提供的不同類型的家庭培育及支援服務。本會服務與各家庭一直同行，致力實現家庭和諧，鞏固及發揮家庭效能。 #BGCA #BGCAHK #FamilyYear #Changebeginsathome #NurturetheYoung #CreatetheFuture #香港小童群益會 #培育新一代 #攜手創未來 #兒家開始 #國際家庭年 #雪櫃暖說話
