Today on our #HealthAdvancesGivesBack series, we are featuring our #HongKong office's Founders Day. We had the opportunity to visit Crossroads Foundation and contribute to their Global Distribution department. Our team engaged in sorting donated items and redistributing used furniture, with the goal of improving the living conditions of those in need.

🌏 Making a Difference Globally: Volunteering at Crossroads Foundation I am thrilled to share my rewarding experience volunteering at Crossroads Foundation! From packaging clothes and shoes for numerous countries in Africa, packaging essential goods for the needy in Lebanon, and cleansing and wiring computers for Moldova, every moment spent here has been impactful and fulfilling. Through our collective efforts, we're making a positive difference in the lives of those in need worldwide. Whether lending a helping hand or using my skills to contribute, Crossroads Foundation has provided me with incredible opportunities to serve and support communities in meaningful ways. It's truly inspiring to witness the transformative power of collaboration and compassion. The valuable lessons learned and the connections forged at Crossroads Foundation have enriched my personal and professional growth. I'm grateful for the chance to work alongside such passionate individuals who share the same commitment to making the world a better place. Joining forces with Crossroads Foundation has reminded me that we can ignite profound change by taking action, no matter how small. Last month, I had the priviledge of attending the “Refugee Run” carried out by Crossroads Foundation with the team from PichaEats. If im being honest, I have gone through many rounds of reflection in order to get my thoughts together coming out from this experience. The Refugee Run simulation aims to capture what it would feel like if you were to experience the life a refugee would have to go through, from being told your country have gone into war, getting a space in the refugee camp and surviving day to day not knowing if you’ll live to see tomorrow. This simulation lasted for 40 minutes, and it was harrowing. 40 minutes. A refugee experience this for years if not decades. We were told that the fear we had felt were only on average 13% of the true pain that is actually faced by the community who goes through this. My initial emotion coming out of this was Anger. I was furious. I dont understand. Why do people have to go through this? How did we let this happen? Why is it so hard to get officials to LISTEN and put pride and ego aside and realise what its doing to the human population as a result of these ‘disagreements.’ As we wrapped up the session, The question we were asked by David (DJ) Begbie, the Director at Crossroads Foundation still echoes in my mind: How do we change hearts at a national level?

🌟 USLS 2024: Highlights from Days 1 & 2 in Bangkok, Thailand! 🌟 The University Scholars Leadership Symposium, hosted by Humanitarian Affairs Asia at the UN Conference Center in Bangkok, is a premier conference for students passionate about leadership, social impact, and humanitarian work. Here’s some of my favorite points from the first two days: • 🌍 Compassionate Leadership: Compassion isn’t weak—it’s essential for organizational success. A 2023 review on compassionate leadership found that key characteristics like empathy, understanding, and self-compassion enhance work environments and drive better outcomes. Research has also shown that individuals who are generous and agreeable tend to advance more in their careers compared to those with selfish or aggressive traits. • 🤝 Getting Involved: We learned from humanitarian leaders how to effectively engage communities, identify key stakeholders, maintain resilience amidst opposition, and drive initiatives within flawed systems. A crucial takeaway: You don’t have to work directly in humanitarian aid to make an impact. Your skills—whether in accounting, public relations, or another area—are valuable to many charity organizations. A huge thank you to the speakers for their transformative contributions! With little to no shade from the sun, they expressed concerns of the health impacts of extreme heat and shared how they currently cope. Repurposing and restoring computers so that children can learn the essential skills in a digital age. Grateful to BNP Paribas for their example - donating their superseded computers, donating financially to replace the hard drives and supporting their staff to volunteer and refurbish the computers Crossroads Foundation . How would it feel to walk in broken shoes all day? For many the reality of homelessness brings with it both physical discomfort and a lack of dignity. “Many of our homeless clients ask us to receive shoes. However our shoe inventory was limited and we didn't have enough different sizes of shoes. After this donations, we could provide more shoes and choices for our homeless clients.” (Homedoor, Japan). Through Global Hand’s long-term partner, Soles4Souls , we were able to place a donation of brand-new, high-quality sports shoes with the NGO Homedoor in Osaka, Japan. This organisation provides help for homeless people to get out of poverty. 誰想整天踏著破鞋子？不但穿得不舒服，更顯得毫無尊嚴。 日本機構Homedoor分享道：「這裏很多街友向我們申領鞋子，但機構的庫存非常有限，也難以備有不同尺寸的鞋子。感恩收到你們的捐助，我們能為他們提供更多選擇。」 透過環球援手網絡的長期夥伴 Soles4Souls ，我們早前將一批簇新的優質運動鞋轉贈給大阪非政府組織Homedoor，讓他們服侍當地的無家者脫離貧窮的困境。 #CrossroadsFoundation #CrossroadsGlobalVillage #dignity #poverty #endpoverty
