    Celebrating 140 Years with the Community! Today, the Hong Kong Jockey Club proudly launches its 140th anniversary campaign, “With you. Then. Now. Always.” This series of events and initiatives is designed to celebrate our rich history and enduring partnership with the people of Hong Kong, while also looking forward to a bright future together. Since our founding in 1884, the Club has grown from a small racing club into a world-class organization. Our unique integrated business model not only supports racing and wagering but also generates significant tax contributions, charity support, and employment opportunities for Hong Kong. In the 2023/24 financial year alone, we contributed a record HK$40.1 billion to the community, including HK$29.9 billion in betting duty, profits tax, and Lotteries Fund contributions, and a record HK$10.2 billion in approved charity donations. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is now one of the world’s leading charity donors. Club CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges reflects on this journey: “From a small racing club founded in 1884, we have grown into a world-class racing organization.     The Hong Kong Jockey Club staged the Hong Kong, China’s Paris 2024 Olympic Team Celebration Raceday today (13 October) at Sha Tin Racecourse to celebrate the most successful Olympic Games in Hong Kong’s history. The delegation brought home two gold and two bronze medals from this summer’s Paris Olympics. The raceday also featured a cheque presentation ceremony for the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (JCAIAS), through which the Club granted a total of HK$17.625 million in cash incentives to the medallists and athletes who finished in fourth to eighth position at the Olympics. Guests in attendance included Paris Olympic medallist fencers Cheung Ka-long and Vivian Kong, and medal-winning swimmer Siobhan Haughey; other representatives from the Hong Kong, China delegation; Government officials; and representatives from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and national sports associations, who shared the joy of witnessing local athletes’ historic achievements at the Olympic Games. Michael Lee, Chairman of The Club, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the team, saying: “Your exceptional performance on this global stage once again underscored the excellent capabilities of our athletes. Your efforts in the competition not only showcased our city’s indomitable spirit to the world, but also filled all Hong Kong citizens with immense pride and honour. The Club is also honoured to present cash rewards totalling HK$17.625 million through the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme to the athletes who excelled at the Paris Olympics.” Mr Lee added that sports had a transformative power in shaping lives and fostering societal unity.     [Initiatives to Support Youth Mental Health and Well-Being 💚] The upward trend in the rate of youth suicide in recent years has caused social concern. The challenges faced by young people such as physical change, family relationships, growth, study and interpersonal relationships can easily affect their emotions. Improper handling of such negative emotions can in turn affect their physical and mental health. With Jockey Club Embrace Life Series 2.0 programme supporting over 6,900 students, 5,100 parents, and 8,100 educators and professionals, The Club is committed to fostering a healthier future.
