  • On this International Day of Non-Violence, we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to combating child abuse. Our organisation has been dedicated to raising awareness and driving change in stopping violence against children. A prime example of our efforts is our recent award-winning video, "The Sound of Violence." We are honored to have received the Muse Award in two categories: "Video - Nonprofit" and "Social Media - Celebrity/Influencer." In collaboration with the global agency Cheil Hong Kong, actor Sean, and director Nick, this video sheds light on the alarming issue of child abuse cases in Hong Kong. • Revealed: 66% of children interviewed with access to the internet interact with people they don't know daily ⚠ In the aftermath of the pandemic, incidents of online grooming and child sexual and financial exploitation are at an all-time high, with an 82% rise in online grooming crimes against children reported in that period “People should be kept safe when interacting with strangers online, because one message, video or post can have a great impact on a child’s mind. As you know many young children are getting assaulted online and many of the children can’t stand up for themselves, so here I am standing up for all those kids who got assaulted.” – 12 year old girl from urban Australia While children have come up with numerous ways to protect themselves, they are calling for widespread, accessible and targeted online safety education for themselves and their caregivers. By listening carefully to about 600 children, our new study, carried in partnership with the Young and Resilient Research Centre at Western Sydney University and with funding from Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund, found that children want and need better online protection. Children are calling on adults to: ❌ Create easier ways to report online abuse 💡 Upskill in digital literacy, especially parents and caregivers 📙 Provide widespread online safety education 👨💻 Harness technological innovations like AI 🤝 For governments and tech companies to work together to implement measures to protect children online "We need to foster a digital environment that is not only safe but also enriching, allowing children to explore, learn, and grow without fear. Policymakers need to listen to the voices and experiences of children when developing policies that protect them.” Steve Miller, Save the Children’s Global Director of Child Protection. We are calling on leaders gathering at the UN General Assembly this week and in November at the first-ever Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, to listen to children and act upon these findings. We are grateful to Ming Pao Newspaper for sharing Man Man's story, one of our beneficiaries in the iSEL programme, which is jointly held by us and 善導會 SideBySide. Man Man was teased in kindergarten, which left her feeling afraid to make friends, lonely, and even plagued by nightmares. Her mother felt helpless and uncertain about how to support her. However, after participating in our iSEL programme for ten months, Man Man has emerged from her emotional low point. She is now thriving in school and communicating more openly with her family. Our programme focuses on five key areas of social-emotional learning: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Through this process, Man Man has developed the ability to manage her emotions and express herself effectively. • Every child deserves access to equitable and quality education. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, many children have never attended school or have had to drop out due to various reasons. Our programmes focus on equitable participation and outcomes for girls and boys most affected by inequality and discrimination. We have supported 160 Accelerated Learning Centres since 2019 for girls and boys in Pakistan, ensuring they receive the education they deserve. Upon their graduation, they can either be mainstreamed to government schools or receive further vocational education to be financially sustainable, so as to break the cycle of child forced marriage. As International Literacy Day approaches, we envision a world where more children have access to equitable and quality education services. On this day and every day, Save the Children celebrates the importance of literacy for children. Support us, so together we can end the illiteracy crisis and help children like Fiza learn and follow their dreams! #SaveTheChildrenHK #Learning #Education #InternationalLiteracyDay #QualityEducation #EndIlliteracy #SupportChildren #Pakistan #SDG

  • Empowering Youth to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)! We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to QBE Hongkong & Shanghai Insurance Ltd for providing the venue and volunteer for our recent "Generation Hope" event, where we engaged children in learning about the 17 SDGs through an immersive SDG game experience. Under the guidance of Leona Wan, ICF-MCC from Intuitive Success - Your L & D Partner, children were able to roleplay as different stakeholders in the global community, acquiring a deeper understanding of the interconnected challenges we face, from climate change to food security and equality. Through this interactive approach, children gained valuable insights into how they can contribute to advancing the SDGs and creating a better world for all. ------------------------------- 💡 SDGs are 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations, serving as a shared blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. The SDGs address a wide range of pressing issues, including poverty, inequality, climate change and so on. By engaging children in learning about and taking action on the SDGs, we empower them to shape a more sustainable and just future for themselves and generations to come. ------------------------------- 🌏Generation Hope is our global initiative for and with children, allowing their voice to be heard in social and global issue discussions and decisions, such as climate crisis. #SavetheChildrenHK #GenerationHope #ForandWithChildren #Children #Climate #CliamteCrisis #CliamteChange #Nature #Environment #Community #Equality #Poverty #Society #SDGs #Followus
