Follow the heartwarming tale of two siblings in our latest Indonesian children's book, "Bisa atau Tidak, Ya?" ("Can I or Can't I?"). This story takes young readers on a journey of self-discovery as the siblings navigate the path towards independence. Through their adventures, children learn valuable life skills and develop a strong sense of self-belief.   In Indonesia, our recent study with School Of Parenting showed a concerning gap in early childhood literacy. A staggering 51.2% of toddlers do not own a storybook, and 56.5% of parents have never read a storybook to their children.   To help foster resilience in young children and bridge this literacy gap, we partnered with the Kementerian Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Perlindungan Anak RI (Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection) and Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia) to launch this book.   At Tanoto Foundation, we believe that early childhood is a critical period for shaping a child's future. By providing quality resources like "Can I or Can't I?", we aim to inspire a love of reading, promote positive parenting practices, and empower children to reach their full potential.   Head of Learning Environment at Tanoto Foundation, Margaretha Ari Widowati, emphasizes the importance of fostering independence early on: "Many still believe that young children are incapable of being independent. However, nurturing independence from an early age contributes to building self-confidence, foundational skills and resilience, essential qualities for facing future challenges," Ari stated.   Download your free copy of "Can I or Can't I?" today: https://lnkd.in/gvFBRJ2C   #TanotoFoundation #childrensbooks #earlychildhooddevelopment #literacy

A recent study from KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), supported by Tanoto Foundation, reveals the significant benefits of exclusive breastfeeding.   The study found that mothers with high BMI who exclusively breastfed lost an average of 200 grams beyond their pregnancy weight, while those with normal BMI retained about 1,330 grams. At six months, exclusively breastfeeding mothers kept around 910 grams of postnatal weight, compared to 3,280 grams for mixed feeders and 4,150 grams for formula feeders. This trend continued at 12 months.   Dr. Loy See Ling, the study's lead author, emphasizes the importance of promoting exclusive breastfeeding, as it aids in weight management and reduces the risks of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease for both mothers and their children, leading to a positive impact on lifelong health. This research, part of the Community-enabled Readiness for first 1,000 Days Learning Ecosystem (CRADLE) program, followed 379 first-time mothers for 12 months.   Learn more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/gzHiHsEA #TanotoFoundation #BreastFeeding

Tanoto Foundation participated in the Philanthropy for Better Cities Forum, themed “Delivering Impactful Philanthropy in the Real World.” This event brings together a diverse group of philanthropists, thought leaders, social entrepreneurs, policy-makers, academia, and NGOs to drive meaningful change and foster collaboration. Speaking at the first plenary session at the Forum, Benny Lee, CEO of Tanoto Foundation, commented on the need for all philanthropic organizations to ask ourselves how to be more "intentional about impact", so that we can work in partnership towards a greater goal. He also shared a framework of looking at the multi-dimensions of impact, across lenses of "who", "how" and "why" impact measurement should be done. Congratulations to The Bridgespan Group on the launch of their report, “High-Impact Philanthropy: Giving Better Across Asia and the World,” which highlights the potential for increased philanthropic impact. We look forward to exploring new ways to enhance our giving and contribute to creating better cities globally. #TanotoFoundation #PhilanthropyforBetterCities2024 #Philanthropy Institute of Philanthropy

Evidence-based partnership to deliver impact is a core focus of Tanoto Foundation. Much of our work is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and require a multi-stakeholders approach to accelerate local actions. At the recent High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) organized by Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Republic of Indonesia in Bali, Indonesia, countries and multi-sectoral stakeholders discussed the critical needs to support SDG financing, and how philanthropy can play a crucial role.   Benny Lee, CEO of Tanoto Foundation, emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in achieving sustainable development. Using examples like our collaboration with BkkbN, USAID, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA), Bakti Barito Foundation, and Wahana Visi Indonesia to accelerate stunting reduction through the PASTI program and cross border collaborative platforms like Philanthropy Asia Alliance, he shared real life examples of how public-private-philanthropic partnership can work in practice.   Benny also stressed the importance of building institutional capacity to localise SDGs. Through the SDG Academy Indonesia, a joint effort with UNDP and Bappenas, Tanoto Foundation has so far trained more than 15,000 individuals and certified nearly 400 SDG Leaders, addressing capacity building needs among local governments and Non-State Actors. We were honored to join the panelists, which included Gita Sabharwal (UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia), Francisco Aguilera Aranda (Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia and to ASEAN), Jeffery Cohen (USAID Mission Director Indonesia), Guylain Nyembo (Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Planning and Development Aid Coordination, Democratic Republic of the Congo), and Marie Ottosson (Co-Chair Global Partnership on Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC), Deputy Director-General Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) in this discussion. #SDGs #Philanthropy #TanotoFoundation #HLFMSP2024 #Multistakeholderpartnership #SDGAcademyIndonesia

(PNADC, 2016 e 2022).
