Happy National Children's Day, Indonesia!                            A child’s brain grows to about 80% of its adult size by age three. During this critical period, a child’s brain begins to develop memory, language, thinking and reasoning skills. By investing in early childhood education and development (ECED), we can unlock Indonesia’s full potential and create a brighter future for generations to come. That’s why ECED is one of our core programs at Tanoto Foundation.   In our latest Unlocking Potential podcast, hosted by Inge Sanitasia Kusuma, Tanoto Foundation Indonesia’s Country Head, we delved into the power of investing in the first 1000 days of a child's life. Our distinguished guest, Maniza Zaman, UNICEF Indonesia’s Country Representative, shares compelling data on the significant return on investment in ECED.   We strive to forge and promote collaborations with government, development partners such as UNICEF, private sectors, NGOs, academic community, media and other relevant stakeholders to ensure all children will have access to quality ECED services. Let's work together to build a strong foundation for our children.   Watch the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gGFv8UN3   #NationalChildrensDay #HariAnakNasional #ECED #Indonesia #TanotoFoundation #UNICEF

"Mankind has been looking for the elixir of youth,” an exciting breakthrough from Duke-NUS Medical School reveals the role of interleukin-11 (IL-11), a key protein in aging. Research by Assistant Professor Anissa Widjaja and Tanoto Foundation Professor Stuart Cook, reveals IL-11's role in age-related fat accumulation and muscle decline, offering potential for lifespan extension and innovative therapies. We believe that the role of philanthropic funding in medical research is one that is catalytic and transformative. As exemplified through the support of Professor Cook’s research, it is heartening to witness the continued development of promising research talents like Assistant Professor Widjaja in the medical ecosystem. Congratulations to both on their impactful findings! #MedicalResearch #TanotoFoundation

At Tanoto Foundation, we're passionate about empowering future leaders through quality education that tackles real-world challenges. That's why we're thrilled to collaborate with OceanX on an incredible #TFDaywithOceanX event in Jakarta!   This immersive educational tour brings together 100 participants, including Tanoto Scholars, partnering university students, and SDG Academy Alumni. Imagine getting a behind-the-scenes look at cutting-edge ocean exploration technology and the vital work OceanX is doing to preserve our environment. Tanoto Scholars with a passion for marine science will even have the opportunity to connect with OceanX scientists and learn about their career paths, gaining valuable insights for their own future aspirations. This aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through quality education.   Indonesia is a maritime nation with over 17,000 islands and a staggering 6.4 million square kilometers of water, making up 70% of the country's total area. Our ocean is an integral part of our daily lives, economy, and national security.   This immersive experience allows participants to see firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing our oceans, inspiring them to brainstorm solutions and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future for this vital resource.   This ocean exploration mission to Indonesia was made possible through the collaboration between Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Kemaritiman), The National Research and Innovation Agency of The Republic of Indonesia (BRIN), and OceanX. Tanoto Foundation is proud to be able support the education aspect, raising awareness and interests on marine science and its ecology among our youths.   #TanotoFoundation #OceanX #OceanXEducation #SDGs

Stunting is a critical issue impacting children's development in Indonesia. At Tanoto Foundation, we believe partnerships with likeminded organizations are critical to tackling the issue and are humbled to be featured in UNICEF Indonesia's latest annual report, highlighting our ongoing partnership to combat stunting. Belinda Tanoto, member of our Board of Trustees and UNICEF International Council member, perfectly captures our sentiment: "UNICEF has been an essential pillar in our unwavering commitment to fighting stunting in Indonesia." Since 2021, we've embarked on a remarkable journey together toward zero stunting in Indonesia. We're collaborating on a Behavior Change Communication (Komunikasi Perubahan Perilaku) implementation in South Sulawesi and Central Java. This initiative focuses on improving the nutrition in pregnant women, infants, and young children to reduce the risk of stunting by working from provincial to village level in building awareness and improving practices in the communities that actively prevent stunting. With the invaluable support of partners like UNICEF, we're not just improving lives; we're aiming to transform them. Together, we can build a brighter future for children and make a tangible difference in the well-being of communities across Indonesia. #AnnualReport #TanotoFoundation

Collaboration is key to improving early childhood development outcomes in the region, our Head of Policy and Advocacy, Eddy Henry, said at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC) Regional Conference on Early Childhood Development held recently in Penang, Malaysia.   We need to continue to strengthen the Early Childhood Ecosystem, addressing both the supply side (regulations, budget allocation, incentives) and the demand side (awareness, service utilisation), he said during a panel discussion on early childhood health and development service integration across sectors alongside Dr. Asiri Hewamalage from the Family Health Bureau, Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka; Thinley Choden, Deputy Chief Program Officer, Ministry of Health in Bhutan; sangay zam from the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB); and Davy Chhean, Early Childhood Development Officer with UNICEF Cambodia.   Eddy highlighted our Rumah Anak SIGAP initiative, which has established 29 parenting and early stimulation centres across Indonesia to complement the government’s programs, with a focus on providing holistic and integrated services for families with children under three years old. #ARNEC2024 #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #TanotoFoundation

Belinda Tanoto, Member of the Board of Trustees at Tanoto Foundation, recently shared her insights on the evolving philanthropy landscape in Asia in a thought-provoking podcast with Badr Jafar, the founding patron of Cambridge Centre for Strategic Philanthropy. Belinda highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships and innovative approaches to drive impactful change, particularly in the areas of education and community development. She also emphasized the value of collaboration and ecosystem building in accelerating the impact of philanthropy, particularly through organizations like the AVPN and the Asia Philanthropy Circle. “Groups like these really create that platform for collaboration and resource sharing. Instead of having duplication of work, we actually come together, we synergize and we coordinate." By fostering peer-to-peer learning and addressing ecosystem gaps, philanthropic networks play a crucial role in strengthening infrastructure and enabling greater impact.
