I am grateful to continue my studies through the Telkomsel Scholarship program. I recently attended the MBA Dimensions Workshop, Unlocking the Best of Your Culture, with Michael Bunting, hosted by The University of Sydney Business School’s MBA Careers Team. In today’s fast-paced, complex work environment, achieving high performance and building trust within teams is essential. Often, leaders focus on short-term results rather than paving the way for sustained success. The session explored shifting from this short-term “red zone” mentality to the more sustainable, proactive “green zone.” The shift from red to green zones is about moving from quick-fix habits to fostering trust, accountability, and ownership. In the red zone, leaders are often driven by immediate goals, past emotions, and the desire for quick fixes. On the other hand, the green zone is characterized by values-based behaviors that build trust, accountability, and ownership. Leaders in this zone prioritize long-term growth, curiosity, and emotional regulation, making decisions thoughtfully and mindfully rather than reactively. Several strategies can help us shift to the green zone:  1. Build Self-Awareness Self-awareness is a powerful tool for leadership growth. Leaders must recognize when they are in the red zone, acknowledge stress and emotional triggers, and consciously shift to the green zone through mindful reflection. 2. Embrace Constructive Feedback Leaders in the green zone don’t get defensive. Instead, they see feedback as a growth opportunity. Leaders must create an environment that encourages feedback-seeking and reduces anxiety. Honest, constructive conversations foster trust and continuous learning within teams. 3. Practice Emotional Regulation Moving to the green zone requires emotional agility. Instead of reacting impulsively when things get stressful, leaders should slow down, regulate their emotions, and respond thoughtfully. Over time, this practice builds resilience and a more reflective approach to leadership. 4. Lead by Example Role modeling is critical for leaders. As Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner said, to lead others effectively, you must understand your core values and confidently share them. To foster a high-trust, high-performance culture, leaders should demonstrate authenticity, accountability, and commitment to their values. We all sometimes slip into the red zone, but mindful leadership is about catching ourselves, shifting to the green zone, and leading with intention. By staying present, authentic, and growth-oriented, we can sustainably build teams that perform at their best. This session opened my mind and inspired me to improve as a leader.
