How can fisheries data support small-scale fishers? Gafur is a handline tuna fisher who has benefited from fisheries data collection. He feels happy to be able to provide data which plays a key role in fisheries management in North Maluku. Local and provincial governments use data to inform fishery management policies. Well-managed fisheries can result in healthier fishery resources and increasing export quota. These aspects will indirectly benefit fishers, both sustainably and financially. We appreciate Gafur's cooperation over the last half decade with us. Tentang kami
MDPI was founded in 2013 with the aim of driving responsible and sustainable fisheries activities for the well-being of coastal communities and fishery resources across Indonesia. Our organization started with a simple believe that empowered, financially secure fisher communities are key in achieving fishery sustainability. We work with small-scale artisanal fisheries to foster sustainable, equitable, and traceable seafood supply chains. MDPI aims for real and robust long-term results in the communities we engage in.

Buru is a remote island that may not be on everyone’s radar. However, in the world of fisheries, Buru is renowned as the home of Indonesia’s export fishers. For a decade, small-scale fishers in Buru have adhered to international certification standards, creating waves of impact that extends beyond their local communities. Based on the Buru experience, eco-label certification has demonstrated its value for small-scale fishers. With a little encouragement towards socio-economic and environmental sustainability, businesses can actively participate in sustainable fishing practices. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gM-mr-EV

If you had the chance to meet coastal communities worldwide, what would you say? In mid-March, MDPI participated in global fisheries discussions at the World Fisheries Congress and Seafood Expo North America. Despite diverse experiences, coastal communities around the world are facing fisheries crises, including decreasing fish stock and climate change. We shared strategies for coastal community resilience: strengthening fisheries and coastal communities through market tools, management, and alternative livelihoods. #HappyPeopleManyFish #WorldFisheriesCongress
