According to a recent report by the European Central Bank, more and more people across the EU are choosing the convenience of card payments. By the end of the first half of 2023, the number of payment cards (debit card, credit card, or prepaid cards) increased by 4.7%, reaching a total of 669.5 million - an average of 1.9 cards per euro area inhabitant. Whilst ATM usage across the Euro Zone dropped by 3.5% to 260,495, with 24% accepting contactless transactions. In stark contrast the number of POS terminals grew by 13.3%, hitting 19.9 million, with a remarkable 83% supporting contactless payments.
