An Garda Síochána is aware of this arrest following the issuing of an Interpol Red Notice, and welcomes this development. An Garda Síochána has developed major international partnerships in our efforts to target transnational organised crime groups. Our relationship with the authorities in the United Arab Emirates is valued and one which we will continue to develop. This relationship has been supported by Irish governmental and diplomatic efforts.

One of Ireland’s most wanted fugitives, Sean McGovern, has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates following cooperation via INTERPOL.   The 38-year-old, an alleged high-ranking member of the Kinahan Organized Crime Group, was taken into custody by Dubai Police HQ on Thursday 10 October.   The arrest follows the publication of an INTERPOL #RedNotice, or international wanted persons alert, to support the ongoing collaboration between Irish (An Garda Síochána) and UAE (Ministry of Interior UAE) authorities. "We got news today from colleagues in the United Arab Emirates and Dubai about an important intervention and arrest that they have made, and we welcome that very much. "Over the coming days, more detail will be released as to identity and the next steps. "This has been a very long process and investigation that has involved international partners - started off by our late colleague John O'Driscoll with great skill, capacity and energy and we are following through on the foundations that he laid. "We have always said that we are resolute and relentless in the pursuit the members of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group. They are Irish nationals that have created misery throughout the world, involved in very serious criminality and are a murderous gang of drug dealers. "They remain a priority target and a lot of our energy and effort is to bring the overall leadership to justice." - Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris.

On Monday evening about 7:30pm, Gardaí from the Community Policing Unit based at Pearse Street Garda Station were on the beat along Camden St in the South Inner City. They spotted a teenager acting oddly on a bicycle and decided to stop him to enquire. It transpired that the bicycle was not his and so we decided to seize it until proof of ownership could be provided. Selina here was leaving work just before 9pm and came out to realise that her bike was gone and most likely stolen. She gave us a call to report this and when she described the bike and told us her location, both Garda Scanlon and Garda O'Toole were struck by their earlier interaction on Camden St. Low and behold. Selina was home later than usual as her commute was delayed but it's always a nice lift for us to be able to return stolen property, particularly as it's a really difficult part of our job when it's not always possible. #HereToHelp #ItsAJobWorthDoing

The brave and rapid reactions of 18 members of An Garda Síochána have been recognised at this year's Water Safety Ireland National Awards. Our colleagues were in the right place at the right time and helped to save the lives of seven people that each came into difficulty in water at: Port Bridge, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal Gobby beach, Ringaskiddy Co. Cork The River Lee, Cork City The River Liffey, Dublin City Centre The River Barrow, Athy, Co. Kildare Ferrybank Co. Wexford Lough Swilly, Buncranna Co. Donegal These incidents could have ended differently, and tragically an average of 118 people drown in Ireland each year, nine every month. Always swim within your depth and parallel to shore to enjoy the water safely. #KeepingPeopleSafe

Garda Stephen Collins and Garda John Yeates were on duty in Kilmainham Garda Station when Dom arrived into the public office around 12:30pm on Saturday afternoon. Dom and his wife were visiting Ireland from Kansas and had flagged down a taxi to bring them to the Guinness Storehouse to enjoy the last day of their trip. Dom had a backpack with him that contained his passport and laptop - he threw it into the boot of the taxi when getting in but sure in all the excitement didn't he forget to take it from the boot when they hopped out. Uhoh. With their return flight home the following day, Dom really needed our help getting that passport back. He was able to show Garda Collins and Garda Yeates that the AirTag in his backpack was showing its location, but the problem was that the taxi was on the move going from fare to fare. Both Gardaí and Dom went out on a goose chase in the patrol car, following the AirTag and hoping to be able to stop the taxi. It took longer than you might think but Dom got an unexpected afternoon on the beat and saw all of Dublin by the time Garda Collins and Garda Yeates finally located the taxi and were able to get the backpack from the boot. Not quite the tourist experience he had planned for but certainly one for the books. #HereToHelp

'CAST' or Community Access Support Team, a pilot initiative under ‘A Policing Service for the Future’ aimed at assisting people who are experiencing situational trauma or a mental health crisis, was launched earlier today in Limerick city. The project, which is a partnership between An Garda Síochána and Mental Health Services Health Service Executive Mid West with support from the Department of Health and the Department of Justice, will be trialled in the Limerick Garda Division later in the year. The CAST team will be based at Henry Street Garda Station and will aim to reduce future presentations and interactions with Gardaí or other blue light emergency services, through community follow-ups and the case management of complex cases. Speaking at the launch, Assistant Commissioner of the Southern Region Eileen Foster said the initiative was "an important pilot project" that will help ensure persons in crisis/trauma will "access the right care at the right time.” #KeepingPeopleSafe
