Storm Éowyn brought unprecedented, widespread and extensive damage to the electricity infrastructure nationwide, resulting in 768,000 customers losing power on the 24th January. ESB Networks crews and partner contractors continue to assess damage at fault sites and work to restore power, as of 5pm 25th January power has been restored to 366,000 customers. The restoration time required for the storm response remains dynamic given the widespread and extensive damage to the network. Never approach fallen or low hanging electricity wires, always report any damage to the electricity network by calling: 1800 372 999. Stay safe & stay clear of electricity wires. We understand the disruption and impact this has on our customers and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this very difficult time. Earlier this week Tipperary Roads Policing Unit detected this artic being driven more than 32km/h over the speed limit in Roscrea. We then discovered that its tax disk on display was actually belonging to a car and it was still out by over eight months. We also took a look at its tacograph and were concerned so it was seized. A short time after, we detected another motorist speeding. When they were stopped, our Mobility device confirmed that they were a a disqualified driver. This vehicle was also seized. Both drivers will be before the courts. #SaferRoads

It has been an incredibly difficult 48 hours for those most affected by #StormÉowyn and the damage it has left behind. Many of our teams out working around the country to help keep people safe and assist with those now dealing with the storm’s impact, are tired but running on adrenaline. In the midst of all of it all there have been other small but meaningful actions that we were gladly able to do to help. Chiara’s connecting flight from Dublin to make it home to Argentina after her trip to Ireland, was one of a handful of flights that were not cancelled yesterday morning. Sergeant Chris Jones and Garda Fionnbarr Thompson were on patrol in and around Dublin’s North Inner City in the early hours to see if anyone needed our assistance, when they spotted Chiara at the bus stop trying to get to the airport. With not a bus or taxi in sight she didn’t know what to do given her flight was still not confirmed as cancelled. The lads told her not to panic, to hop into the patrol car and that they would get her there on time. Sharing this photo and her thanks with us via her Instagram, Chiara said “Your warmth and generosity brightened a gloomy day - what a wonderful example of Irish hospitality. Grateful to have been in a safe and welcoming city like Dublin.” #HereToHelp
