Yesterday, Bord Gáis Energy attended EAI: Electricity Association of Ireland’s Zero e-Mission Future conference in Dublin, where industry leaders gathered to discuss the future of energy in Ireland. Claire M., our General Counsel, contributed to the CEO Roundtable – Ambition for Our Zero e-Mission Future panel, joining other experts to discuss key challenges and opportunities in the transition to a sustainable energy future. Paddy Fitzgerald, Power Trading and Operations Manager, participated in an afternoon session focused on shaping a retail market fit for the energy transition. Thank you to all the delegates and partners who engaged with us throughout the day!

The Electricity Association of Ireland (EAI) has today published a comprehensive strategic roadmap  to decarbonise the electricity sector, economy and society. This marks the shared view of the all-island electricity sector from generation through to retail of the critical role of electricity in achieving Ireland’s climate goals. Presented at “Ireland’s Zero e-Mission Future,” a major all-island energy conference in Dublin this Thursday (7th November) organised by EAI, the roadmap envisions the electricity sector decarbonising ahead of society, paving the way for an emission-free future. By fostering greater investment and policy alignment, Ireland can lead the way in delivering a clean, reliable and affordable energy system for all. Keynote speakers Declan Hughes, Secretary General of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (ROI), and Ian Snowden, Permanent Secretary of the Department for the Economy (NI) addressed industry leaders including energy company CEOs and senior level stakeholders. Attached is a photo from this mornings roundtable session, moderated by Kevin O'Sullivan and panellists included CEO of Energia, Ian Thom, Director ESB, Pat Fenlon, MD of SSE Airtricity, Klair Neenan, GC Bord Gáis Energy, Claire Madden, CEO of Flogas, John Rooney, CEO of EAI, Dara Lynott. Recently, our team of Bord Gáis Energy engineers upgraded the heating systems at 11 homes in the Focus Ireland Aylward Green Family Supported Accommodation. This work included installing state-of-the-art boilers and smart heating controls. In total, we have upgraded a total of 24 homes at this facility, providing families with more energy-efficient and comfortable living conditions, while helping to lower their utility bills. This initiative - where we are using our expertise to support communities in need through our charity partner, Focus Ireland - is just one way we're living our purpose to energise a greener, fairer future. #CommunitySupport #Sustainability #EnergyEfficiency #FamilyHomelessness

As we mark our seventh year supporting Shine A Light, we remain deeply committed to raising awareness and increasing fundraising efforts to combat family homelessness. Artist Sarah Bracken Soper’s powerful mural, part of this year’s ‘Unseen but not forgotten’ theme, captures the hidden crisis of family homelessness in Ireland, turning public space into a conversation starter about the urgent need for support. At today’s launch of the mural in Temple Bar, artist Sophie Bracken Soper spoke with the Irish Times about her inspiration for the project. Focus Ireland's LEAP (Lived Experience Ambassador Programme) ambassador Kelle Anne Byrne also shared her personal experience of homelessness, which is poignantly reflected in the artwork. Check it out 👉 https://lnkd.in/gryS5kFD With the national #ShineALight sleepout happening tonight, we encourage business leaders, companies, schools, community groups, and individuals to donate and help make 2024 our most successful year yet. Together, we can raise essential funds for Focus Ireland and work towards ending family homelessness. #UnseenButNotForgotten Donate here ➡ https://lnkd.in/ekM96M_h

Will you do your bit to help end family homelessness this Friday 11 October? We've been supporting Focus Ireland for nearly 10 years now, committing €4.4 million and contributing thousands of volunteer hours to help end family homelessness. Each year, we join the annual Shine A Light sleep out to raise awareness of this critical issue. Elaine Kelly is a People Partner with Bord Gáis Energy and has been a dedicated member of the Focus Ireland steering group since 2016. This year marks the fifth year Elaine has taken part in the Shine A Light sleep out, and she encourages people at all levels of business to get involved, be it through donation or participation, to stand in solidarity with those families and children experiencing homelessness.
