Sligo Park Hotel has completed the installation of a new photovoltaic (PV) solar panel array on the facility’s roofs. This decision is expected to significantly reduce the 100-year-old hostelry’s energy bills and carbon emissions annually. JV Tierney provided the mechanical, electrical and sustainable design services for this project. JV Tierney engaged with Coolair Ltd. to install the 400 PV solar panels across 13,000sqft of the building’s roofs between June and August this year. JV Tierney specified these PV solar panels to help the Sligo Park Hotel achieve its energy performance goals and reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint. It is anticipated that the use of these PV solar panels will account for up to 50% of the hotel’s total energy requirements during the summer months. Congratulations to all on the design and construction teams.

JV Tierney were delighted to work with Scott Tallon Walker Architects and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Campus Developments Office (CDO) on their new National High Level Isolation Unit. There are less than 20 National High Level Isolation Units in the world. The unit is designed as a “hospital within a hospital” and can operate irrespective of whatever else is happening within the facility. This indicates a very meticulous and specialised approach to the handling of infectious diseases. This facility will play a pivotal role in managing future public health crises and providing care for patients at the hospital. JV Tierney provided the Mechanical, Electrical, and Sustainable Design services for this new one-of-a-kind health facility in Ireland. Sustainable and innovative features for the operation of the National High Level Isolation Unit include: The air systems and air pressure profiling were carefully designed to ensure cascading pressure regimes are maintained to protect staff, as they work in the patients’ room, move between various support rooms and to ensure airborne pathogens are not transmitted to outside the infected patient suite; we specified primary, secondary, and tertiary power supplies to back up the Mechanical Ventilation Systems in order to ensure pressure profiles are maintained at all times; the provision of Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS) and Medical Isolation Power Supplies (IPS) were also specified. The National High Level Isolation Unit was designed to the highest standards of efficiency and sustainability. JV Tierney were delighted to work on such an important project for the future of healthcare in the country. Huge congratulations to all involved: Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Scott Tallon Walker Architects, Molony Millar, Asgard Controlled Environments, O'Reilly Hyland Tierney & Associates.
