A delegation of students from the prestigious University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG) in Italy enjoyed an immersive journey through the Boyne Valley earlier this month, experiencing first-hand the region’s rich agricultural heritage and innovative food businesses. The Centre of Food Culture was delighted to welcome the visiting group to the Boyne Valley as an outstanding example of an integrated food system, where Ireland’s history, local environment, community support, and a balance of tradition and innovation come together. It is an ideal destination for UNISG students to explore and analyse these topics in depth. During their visit, students visited a diverse range of farms, artisanal producers, and food businesses that define the Boyne Valley’s reputation as a hub for quality food production and sustainable farming. On Track with Dunboyne and Clonee Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme Our Active Travel team are busy planning works on the new Dunboyne and Clonee Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme, after a public consultation process last year. The first section of the scheme will consist of: • 2.5km of new two-way protected cycle track and upgraded footpaths along the existing road from the Rookse Road junction with the L2228 in Dunboyne, eastwards through Loughsallagh roundabout and Clonee Village to the Fingal County Council boundary (route shown in red on map); • New and upgraded crossings to allow pedestrians easier access to schools, amenities and services; • Upgraded junctions to provide improved safety; • Traffic calming to slow speeds and reduce through traffic; • Public realm improvements; • 1.4km of new Greenway along the Castle Stream linking Dunboyne and Clonee (route shown in blue on map). A further public consultation process on the proposed scheme will take place later this year, with construction anticipated to commence in 2026. The remaining routes shown in green are currently the subject of a further option selection process. Updates will follow in the future on these routes. Meath County Council has recently been allocated €12 million by the National Transport Authority for Active Travel projects such as this, welcome news that strengthens our ability to deliver important infrastructure for the county.
