Propelor is delighted to be part of the EU's BluePoint project, focused on reducing marine plastic pollution through sustainable innovations. BluePoint aims to create a network of national and international partners, driving collaboration and new business opportunities. The goal is to develop a scalable circular economy model for marine plastics in the Atlantic region, helping over 25 companies transition toward a sustainable future. #DriveSuccess #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #BluePoint #MarinePollution
Propelor BIC (the new name for South East BIC) joined the Interreg Atlantic Area BluePoint project consortium meeting, 1st & 2nd October, at the University of Limerick. Over two days, partners shared their unique approaches to tackling marine plastic pollution. The Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS - UL) team showcased their pilot-phase technological solutions for identifying and collecting beach plastic waste, connecting people with technology to turn environmental challenges into opportunities. At the beautiful Spanish Point beach in County Clare, the CRIS team demonstrated their drones and the BluePoint app in action, impressively identifying plastic pollution that we then collected. 🌊 Propelor is excited to be part of the pilot to use this technology on beaches along our southeast coast to gather essential data on plastic waste levels. We also heard from Dr. John Treacy of Clare County Council, who passionately discussed the use of innovative technology in local heritage projects, highlighting the broader impact of these advancements. Additionally, Sharon Barrington from IFF shared her visionary project, which transforms marine and fishing plastic waste into a sustainable business model, highlighting how innovation can create economic opportunities. The meeting celebrated innovation, collaboration, and the need to protect our beautiful coast line. Special thanks to Gerard Dooly, Isela Ibrahimovic, and the CRIS team for their warm hospitality. Last Friday’s Women in Business Forum was an inspiring deep dive into Digital Transformation, packed with actionable insights for all who attended. We had an incredible lineup of speakers, each offering a unique perspective on how businesses can harness the power of digital tools to grow and innovate. Kasia Sobków - Czajka from Enterprise Ireland reminded us that the time for digital transformation is now! Her presentation emphasized that digital transformation goes beyond adopting new technologies. It’s about rethinking business processes and strategies, enhancing them to align with digital capabilities. Natalie Garland-Cooke, founder of ncco - NC Consulting & Co Ltd, shared her experience and wisdom on the challenges businesses face during digital transformations. In Rosemary Ward's fireside chat with Natalie and Dana Skabar from Kirby Group Engineering, they tackled real-world scenarios, with Dana emphasizing that while there are challenges, customization is possible to suit any business’s needs and the short-term struggle is worth the long-term benefits. Laura Plunkett from CeADAR Ireland provided a fascinating insight into how AI can be leveraged for smarter decision-making. Her message was clear: Take a step back, revisit your 'Why' and what you want to deliver and then identify the barriers. CeADAR’s practical solutions, from AI decision-making to digital transformation prototypes, were inspiring examples of how companies can implement AI today. Attendees left the forum armed with clear next steps, with Ann Marie Russell-Walsh encouraging founders to access funding and support for digital initiatives for their business. A big thank you to all our speakers and attendees for making it such a memorable and insightful event and to the Waterford IDA Ireland branch for the use of their fabulous space.
