🌟 Happy National Physical Therapy Month! 🌟 This month, we recognize and celebrate the Physical Therapy profession, and honor the incredible contributions of Physical Therapists in empowering their patients to manage and prevent pain and injury, in order to feel and move better. At Salaso, a company founded and led by Physical Therapists, we advocate for a Physical Therapy-first model of care that prioritizes early intervention, holistic and integrated treatments, and accessibility. We aim to empower users of our platform to proactively engage with preventive programs and self-management care plans to enhance overall well-being and reduce healthcare costs, while minimizing the administrative demands and heavy workloads often experienced by healthcare providers. That is why we believe in a very bright future for physical therapy, where technology and AI play a transformative role in enhancing the delivery of care and augmenting the role of the PT, rather than replacing it. By leveraging innovative digital solutions, we aim to empower individuals to prevent and self-manage, while enabling healthcare providers such as physical therapists to streamline their workflows, optimize patient engagement, and focus on what matters most - providing exceptional care to patients. We don’t believe technology and AI will ever replace the role of the physical therapist, but we believe that therapists who utilize these tools will in the future most certainly replace therapists who don’t. Technology and AI offer huge advantages to the PT profession that should be leveraged to elevate those who practise evidence-based physical therapy to being fundamental drivers of and decision makers in population health management. As we look forward, we envision a world where the benefits of quality PT delivery are strongly evidenced by real-world data and where healthcare providers can harness data-driven insights and automated tools at ease in order to maximize their valuable time, and individuals are better supported in taking control of their own health day-to-day. Together, we can create a more efficient, effective and accessible quality healthcare experience for everyone. Join us this month in celebrating the PT profession and its vital role in improving the health and well-being of individuals, communities and employees, and embracing the advancements that will shape its future! 💪✨ If you would like to learn more about what we do at Salaso to optimize healthcare delivery and promote a healthy workplace, please get in touch with our team: 📧 info@salaso.com 💻 https://lnkd.in/g-KfqBfJ #NationalPTMonth #NPTM #ChoosePT #PhysicalTherapy #PT #EmployeeWellbeing #PTFirstModel #Prevention #PreventativeCare #Recovery #IntegratedCare #HealthcareInnovation #HealthTech #AIinHealthcare #AIinPT #Salaso

“We are all at the #AI starting line together” so according to Austin Senseman whom I met in Birmingham, Alabama this week. This city once troubled by divisions and history has overcome many challenges to become a thriving, equality-driven and welcoming place. It provided the perfect backdrop for a roundtable conference exploring the theme of “Seizing the AI Opportunity”. From history, we learn...... The shared history of civil rights movements and struggles of Belfast and Birmingham provided as Deontée Gordon put it "a unique social and cultural lens" which contributed significant insights for discussions around #leveragingAI to benefit all sectors of society. Mike Shaw told how #Alabama has already set up an AI Task Force that is thoughtfully, purposefully and cautiously exploring and planning for AI and what it is going to mean in the future for communities. Matt McGuire of Unosquare encouraged all employees to take the chance to upskill now as #AIdevelopment is progressing at a rapid pace.  Victoria Manax Rutson, MD reminded everyone that AI is only as good as the data that goes into it and that we need to ensure the data the AI is built on to support healthcare delivery is representative of all of the population. AI and #digitaltransformation must form part of the solution for the healthcare crisis, the shortage of healthcare workers and the lack of access to quality healthcare being faced in many countries today. I participated in the Healthcare panel. We discussed the importance of trust, the narrative/ language used around AI to build trust and the critical need to have clinicians front and central in the AI conversation/developments in healthcare. This point was top of mind again when listening to the final speaker of the day Laurence Moroney who gave a fascinating talk on the hype cycle of AI. He talked about the current #AI #FOMO due to the hype, but also informed us that 80% of AI projects have failed in the last 2 years! His advice for everyone (remember we are all at the starting line) was to educate ourselves on what it does and how it works and then bring our domain expertise and apply it to AI. That’s when we will be able to truly seize the AI opportunity and realize its value in solving some of the most challenging problems of our time. Ireland is known throughout the world for its friendly people and welcome. The warmth of the Birmingham people and the welcome in Alabama this week would give any part of Ireland a run for its money! Donald Smith, MBA Kris Erskine Tim Brundle Giancarlo Di Vece Will Blackburn Sarah Kavanagh Thomas Dowling Emmett Kerr Thank you to the wonderful Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and Connla McCann of Aisling Events for the invitation to participate (mar a dúirt Arnie: beidh mé ar ais). BREAKING NEWS The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2024 #NobelPrize in Physics to John J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.” This year’s two Nobel Prize laureates in physics have used tools from physics to develop methods that are the foundation of today’s powerful machine learning. John Hopfield created an associative memory that can store and reconstruct images and other types of patterns in data. Geoffrey Hinton invented a method that can autonomously find properties in data, and so perform tasks such as identifying specific elements in pictures. When we talk about artificial intelligence, we often mean machine learning using artificial neural networks. This technology was originally inspired by the structure of the brain. In an artificial neural network, the brain’s neurons are represented by nodes that have different values. These nodes influence each other through connections that can be likened to synapses and which can be made stronger or weaker. The network is trained, for example by developing stronger connections between nodes with simultaneously high values. This year’s laureates have conducted important work with artificial neural networks from the 1980s onward. John Hopfield invented a network that uses a method for saving and recreating patterns. We can imagine the nodes as pixels. The Hopfield network utilises physics that describes a material’s characteristics due to its atomic spin – a property that makes each atom a tiny magnet. The network as a whole is described in a manner equivalent to the energy in the spin system found in physics, and is trained by finding values for the connections between the nodes so that the saved images have low energy. When the Hopfield network is fed a distorted or incomplete image, it methodically works through the nodes and updates their values so the network’s energy falls. The network thus works stepwise to find the saved image that is most like the imperfect one it was fed with. Geoffrey Hinton used the Hopfield network as the foundation for a new network that uses a different method: the Boltzmann machine. This can learn to recognise characteristic elements in a given type of data. Hinton used tools from statistical physics, the science of systems built from many similar components. The machine is trained by feeding it examples that are very likely to arise when the machine is run. The Boltzmann machine can be used to classify images or create new examples of the type of pattern on which it was trained. Hinton has built upon this work, helping initiate the current explosive development of machine learning. #AI is set to transform our society and our economy. AI will redefine job roles, create new industries, require new skills and generate commercial opportunities for entrepreneurs. And this revolution could happen very quickly….” So said Minister Conor Murphy of Department for the Economy NI at the #AICON24 conference in Belfast earlier today. From Belfast to the Big Apple and from the Kingdom of Kerry to the Magic City of Birmingham Alabama, this REVOLUTION is already well underway! According to The World Bank, since its launch, GenAi has seamlessly woven itself into the daily routines of approx. half a billion people worldwide. It’s akin to a digital gold rush with users from 209 countries and 1 in 8 workers globally jumping on the bandwagon (see full article here: https://bit.ly/4gSoWW0). However, ensuring that there is #equitable access to the benefits of AI for all is key and brings significant new responsibilities to our leaders and policymakers. I am therefore eagerly anticipating my first visit to Birmingham Alabama for the Irish Roundtable in the Magic City event next week. We will delve into the topic of “Transforming Health Outcomes with A New Generation of AI Tools.” The event boasts an impressive line-up of speakers and guests who will explore various topics under the conference theme “Seizing the AI Opportunity”. You can view the conference program and even sign-up to attend here: 👇 https://bit.ly/3TWLieV Thank you to Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and the wonderful team at Aisling Events for inviting me to participate and to hosts Unosquare for putting together what promises to be a fantastic event. The debate continues: Is #AI the BIG HOPE to transform our healthcare systems from being disease-focused to health and well-being-focused? At the AI for Good Health conference at the Fordham Gabelli School of Business yesterday, many knowledgeable researchers, innovators, and speakers provided deep insights into how AI can fix much of what is broken in our health systems and provide better access to quality healthcare for all. The key challenges with AI, including the recurring themes of biased data sets and explainability were also debated. The coffee break discussions were equally interesting. I met many people, including everyday #NewYorkers, who attended to learn about AI. One gentleman wanted to learn more about AI to help care for his wife with early Alzheimer's. Another lady attended because she was afraid of AI and wanted to understand it better. Great credit to Falguni Sen and his team at Fordham University for this transmission of learning and sharing its gifts for the enrichment of this great City. I also met #nurses and #physicianassistants eager to learn how AI will impact their roles. One line from the conference that resonated with me was that AI will not replace doctors, but doctors who use AI will certainly replace those who don't. Richard Mulry of Northwell Holdings emphasised the imperative of using AI in healthcare today. He outlined fascinating examples of how their investments in AI companies will benefit patients and assist not-for-profit health systems, (which often operate with razor-thin margins), to improve the health and quality of life for all patients (including those without health insurance). Among the many fascinating presentations, the highlight for me was Navid Asgari's talk on #GenerativeAI as a Strategic Option within Healthcare Organizations. Dr. Asgari, a widely published AI researcher, boldly stated that AI is a misnomer. It is not "intelligent" and never will be; rather, it is a series of predictions—essentially advanced high school mathematics. Crucially, these predictions require human judgment. For those who fear AI, (including the lovely lady I met at the break) I hope this message clarifies that computers will never rule the world. AI also cannot transform our healthcare systems unless we change how judgment is distributed within the system. Dr. Asgari discussed the challenge of #ArchitecturalInnovation, which involves replacing old organizational structures with new ones, creating new routines, and changing decision-making processes. Reflecting on this, I truly believe that as clinicians, we are "disabled by our training." The decision-making approach taught in medical, nursing, and allied therapy schools MUST shift to change the distribution of human judgment in healthcare delivery. This shift is essential for achieving the architectural innovation needed to transform our healthcare systems from being disease-focused to health and well-being-focused. Salaso

💡 It has been a week since the fifth John McCarthy AI Summer School | #AIforSport wrapped, and we would like to thank the RDI Hub again for the opportunity for Salaso to speak on #AIfortheAthlete and how we are utilising AI for injury risk reduction, injury prevention enhancement, and the hyper-personalisation of content to engage athletes and employees in proactively managing their own health and well-being. 🤖 It was so interesting to learn about how other companies are currently leveraging AI in sport, with the discussions covering #GenerativeAI, #MLmodels, #WearableDevices, the challenges of training on integrated datasets, understanding ACL injury prevention, and much more! 🏐 And it was so insightful to hear about how technology, data and AI can be used for overcoming challenges in sport directly from Kerry #GAA footballers Paudie Clifford, Siofra O’ Shea and Kayleigh Cronin. An interesting point that was highlighted by these athletes was how they would be interested in seeing more research on #injuryprevention and the use of technology to recover quicker; a key issue for athletes and players competing at an elite level. 🌟 Thank you again to everyone involved for an excellent event and knowledge sharing session, informing how we continue to develop and enhance the capabilities of AI for the elevation of athletic performance across the board.   #AISS24 #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #JohnMcCarthy #AlSummerSchool #HealthTech #SportsTech #Conference Revathi Nukala Chris O'Brien Alexia Sibony Aoife Ní Mhuirí Salaso Health Gervaise Monks Prof Mick Thacker
