Micro-credentials facilitate professional development & lifelong learning. Agile & flexible.
About us
Micro-credentials are a new, exciting offering from Trinity College Dublin. They are short, accredited modules of learning that facilitate flexible and innovative professional development. This pilot programme was created out of a desire to support the professionals and lifelong learners wishing to keep pace with the changing needs of industry and society. We are delighted that the Higher Education Authority has recognised this commitment through funding the micro-credential pilot programme under the Human Capital Initiative. Innovation and agility are the core principles of the HCI venture and provide the foundations for the micro-credentials programme in Trinity. There are four schools presently participating in the programme: Trinity Business School, the School of Engineering, the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Social Work and Social Policy. Each of these schools has put together micro-credential modules with today’s professional in mind. Modules that explore the evolving trends in each field, that partner with enterprise to ensure responsive skills development and ultimately deliver learning outcomes with real-world relevance. The vision for Trinity micro-credentials in the future is that micro-credentials will be portable and stackable towards a Trinity award.

Trinity micro-credential learner Nathan Cruz Coulson features today on The Irish Times, explaining how postgraduate study, including his micro-credential with Trinity College Dublin School of Engineering, has helped him to advance in his career. "The micro-credential format meant that I was able to jump into an area that I had no background in but the teaching, support, and prestart guidance enabled me to learn effectively. I would recommend a micro-credential to anyone who has a deep interest in a topic but feels that they might not have the specific background to start learning about it." 🎓 Experiencing MicroCreds! I have recently completed the Driving Performance with AI and Analytics micro-credential at the Trinity Business School, with the support of the Irish Universities Association, and what a fantastic experience it has been. Having spent the last number of years working to expand micro-credentials as lifelong learning opportunities in Ireland through our work here at MicroCreds, it was invaluable to go through the process myself. These flexible, skills-focused courses are a game-changer for upskilling and professional development. It was fascinating to experience first-hand the impact of micro-credentials—both from a learner’s perspective and in shaping the future of education and work. This course is open currently for applications for the next intake in June 2025, and is also eligible for the Higher Education Authority Micro-credential Learner Fee Subsidy.
