On 2 July, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Drew Weissman, the 2023 winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, as a guest speaker at the European Medicines Agency. Drew Weissman is the Roberts Family Professor in Vaccine Research and director of the Penn Institute for RNA Innovation in Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine. He is recognised for his contributions with Katalin Karikó to the development of the mRNA technology, which laid the foundation for effective mRNA vaccines against #COVID19 during the pandemic. Dr Weissman’s current research focuses on developing a vaccine to stop the next coronavirus epidemic, a universal flu vaccine and the development of cancer therapeutics with #mRNA technology. Dr Weissman had an inspiring discussion with Emer Cooke, our Executive Director, on topics such as: ✔️The potential of RNA technology to treat allergies or diseases affecting the heart, as well as its application in fields like gene editing and CAR-T cell therapy; ✔️Strategies to achieve greater #equity in access to vaccines and therapeutics; ✔️Tackling #vaccinehesitancy and false narratives about science; ✔️The importance of creativity and curiosity in the field of research. Watch the full recording here!

On International Clinical Trials Day, we remind sponsors that all ongoing clinical trials in the EU must be transitioned to the Clinical Trials Information System (CTIS) by 30 January 2025. This will be the end of a three-year transition period that began when the #ClinicalTrialsRegulation became applicable in the EU. Sponsors can see our Guide to Conducting Clinical Trials in Ireland for information on topics including: → safety reporting → supervision → archiving → appeals → GCP inspections → enforcement → investigational medicinal products and auxiliary medicinal products Sponsors can download the HPRA Guide, and access other resources on our website: https://lnkd.in/e-7wF6wi #ICTD2024 #ClinicalTrials
