Imagine eye exams for diabetics being as simple as snapping a photo. Thanks to a BIRD-funded partnership between AEYE Health and UMass Memorial Health, this is now a reality, setting a new standard for accessible and efficient diabetic eye care, and helping the prevention of the leading cause of blindness in the working age. AEYE Health has developed FDA-approved AI technology that screens for diabetic retinopathy using standard cameras, with no need for physician interpretation and without uncomfortable pupil dilation. This solution, effective with both tabletop and mobile cameras, provides immediate results and fits easily anywhere - whether at home, a pharmacy, or a family doctor's office. By offering accurate, fully-autonomous analysis with off-the-shelf retinal cameras, this technology helps close the persistent "care gap" many diabetics experience with traditional, inconvenient exams. It makes it easier for more people to access the screenings they need by removing barriers that have previously limited their ability to get tested. The partnership between the innovative Israeli startup and the largest healthcare system in Central Massachusetts shows how U.S.-Israel collaborations can drive meaningful advancements in healthcare. We couldn't be prouder of their success and their ongoing efforts to improve patient health outcomes. 🔗 For more details, see: https://lnkd.in/dsJsDpPd ❗ Discover why Zack Dvey-Aharon, Co-founder and CEO of AEYE Health, is named one of TIME’s 2024 most influential innovators in artificial intelligence: https://lnkd.in/ejQTy8sM #BIRDFoundation #nondilutivefunding #US_Israel #collaboration #innovation #AI #healthcare #diabetes #eyeexam #retina

In the digital playground of online gaming, knowing who your children interact with is crucial. A recent Anti-Defamation League report found that 75 percent of young gamers aged 10 to 17 years experienced harassment in 2023, up from 67 percent the previous year. Kidas , a Philadelphia-based startup, has joined forces with Israel's Overwolf 🔜 Gamescom in a BIRD Foundation collaboration to tackle this pressing issue head-on. Their jointly-developed software aims to shield young gamers from online harassment and bullying, blending advanced technology with parental peace of mind. Kidas' innovative system, powered by Overwolf’s sophisticated gaming extensions, monitors in-game communications for signs of toxic behavior. The software scans spoken and written interactions for threats, such as grooming, verbal abuse, and financial scams, alerting parents in real-time. “We are using their technology to connect to the games and our own technology to detect bullying and harassment,” explains Ron Kerbs, CEO of Kidas. Supported by a non-dilutive BIRD Foundation grant, this venture is already making strides in safeguarding young gamers. This U.S.-Israel collaboration is setting a new standard for online safety, ensuring a more secure and enjoyable gaming experience for children worldwide. 🔗 Read more about the partnership's impact here: https://lnkd.in/gq64MNiM 🐰 Shahar Sorek Taylor Hall #BIRDFoundation #nondilutivefunding #US_Israel #collaboration #onlinegaming #technology #innovation #software #stopbullying🚫

Opmed.ai, an Israeli startup and BIRD grantee, is gaining recognition for its predictive AI platform designed to address a critical challenge in hospital management: the efficient use of operating rooms. Hospitals often struggle to use staff and space effectively, with significant downtime in operating theaters representing a particularly costly waste of resources. Opmed has tackled this issue by leveraging AI to intelligently rearrange and optimize operating room reservations. Their strategy minimizes idle time, boosts revenue potential, and, crucially, improves patient care by cutting wait times for operations - all by simply making the most of available rooms each day. The impact is substantial: reducing unused time can potentially boost annual income by up to $1 million per operating suite! The company has partnered with the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to a develop and implement the platform aimed at enhancing hospital scheduling. This project, funded by the BIRD Foundation, addresses the growing demand for innovative, cost-saving solutions in hospitals and medical centers. 🔗 To read more about Opmed and their impressive achievements, see: https://lnkd.in/d4RnHWsM ❗️The BIRD Foundation is now accepting submissions for its latest Call for Proposals, with a deadline of September 5, 2024. Interest in EyeControl’s potential has taken off not only in Israel but internationally as well, with the BIRD Foundation backing their participation in a multi-center clinical trial in collaboration with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. EyeControl is a groundbreaking bi-directional wireless headset designed to combat ICU delirium by enabling ventilated ICU patients to communicate effectively with their families and medical teams. Utilizing an AI-driven system with intelligent machine learning, EyeControl decodes eye gestures and translates them into speech, significantly reducing patient anxiety and improving overall clinical outcomes. "It’s rare that a health-tech solution is of value to virtually all stakeholders in the U.S. healthcare system. We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received across the board – from hospital executives to bedside nurses," says Noa Mintz, Clinical and Business Development - U.S., noting the growing recognition of EyeControl's technology as a pivotal advancement in healthcare. The Israeli health-tech startup has already attracted additional funding and added Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland to its list of U.S.-based clinical trial partners. The BIRD Foundation is proud to support this profoundly impactful medical device, which holds significant implications for compassionate care in Israel during these critical times, and beyond. 🔗 For more about their extraordinary work with injured soldiers in Israel, see: https://lnkd.in/etG3iae9 Or Retzkin #BIRDfunding #RandD #HealthTech #ICUdelirium #clinicaltrial #innovation #technology #US_Israel #collaboration
