We’re thrilled to share that our article on the urgent need for #climateaction in #cities has been published by India Development Review (IDR)! As urban areas expand, the challenges faced by communities are becoming more pronounced. At AKAH, we are committed to creating #resilienthabitats that help communities not just withstand disasters but adapt to climate change and thrive. Did you know that cities, while driving progress, contribute to 70% of global CO2 emissions? This makes climate action in urban spaces more critical than ever. Our article dives into #greenbuilding approaches and highlights the development of a #ClimateActionPlan for #MiraBhayandar City as a case study. We explore how creating climate action plans is key to building resilient, sustainable cities. 🔗 Check out the article and discover how we can all contribute to tackling the #ClimateEmergency in cities! https://lnkd.in/dYHUyhXy A big thank you to IDR for the opportunity to contribute. Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to develop a city climate action plan focused on implementing thermal comfort solutions, creating a GHG emissions inventory, and building school resilience. This partnership offers an opportunity to support the city in taking pivotal steps toward addressing climate challenges facing urban areas. During a panel discussion on Environmental Sustainability and Circular Economy, Prerana Langa, CEO of #AKAH, emphasized the importance of balancing CSR fund allocation, highlighting that while significant resources support rural India, there is a valuable opportunity to extend similar support to urban areas. Given that 35% of GHG emissions come from construction, it is crucial to collaborate with housing societies to encourage the adoption of green buildings and achieve carbon net-zero targets. #Maharashtra, among other states, experienced ‘warm night conditions’ as early as March this year, underscoring the narrowing gap between daytime and night-time temperatures. We deeply appreciate the city's commitment to taking these pivotal steps, and we look forward to working together to create a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. The CSR conclave was a call for all stakeholders to unite and drive forward climate solutions. #ClimateAction #UrbanSustainability #GreenCover #EnergyEfficiency #UHI #climateactionplan Dinesh Mehta, Jagan Shah, Dhawal Ashar, Paresh Parasnis

Project Launch | New Partnership: Aga Khan Agency for Habitat India is thrilled to announce the launch of two transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing green urban spaces and addressing climate change, in partnership with IndusInd Bank as part of the #Sattvam—Our Country Our Commitment initiative. 🌿 Coastal Risk Reduction through Mangrove Plantation: By enhancing coastal ecosystems, the project aims to support communities in Vasai and Palghar districts, on outskirts of Mumbai. We will plant 100,000 #mangroves as #NatureBasedSolutions for coastal erosion and storm surges. These mangroves will provide habitats for marine life, purify water by trapping sediments, promote biodiversity, and cultivate resilience. 🌳 Creation of Green Assets in Urban Areas: To transform urban spaces into green havens, we will plant 44,000+ saplings using the #Miyawaki technique. Our goal is to establish biodiverse mini forests in Thane, to promote #carbonsequestration more efficiently than conventional afforestation. These initiatives reflect our commitment to environmental protection and IndusInd Bank's responsible business practices. This partnership promotes educational opportunities about native plants and encourages partners and volunteers to build a sense of environmental stewardship. Join us in this transformative journey towards a greener tomorrow! #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GreenInitiatives #EnvironmentalStewardship #CommunityEngagement #WorldEnvironmentDay
