About us

A century-old vision that’s transforming lives... Tata Trusts is amongst India's oldest, non-sectarian philanthropic organisations. The Trusts own two-third of the stock-holding of Tata Sons Limited, the apex company of the Tata group of companies. The wealth that accrues from this asset supports an assortment of causes, institutions and individuals in a wide variety of areas. This way, the profits that Tata companies earn, go back many times over to the communities they operate in. The funds have been deployed towards community development programmes across the country, for over 100 years now. The Tata Trusts continue to be guided by the principles of its founder, Jamsetji Tata. With his vision of proactive philanthropy and approach to ‘giving’, the Trusts catalyse societal development while ensuring that initiatives and interventions have a contemporary relevance to the nation. Philanthropy that's making a real difference... Since its inception, the Tata Trusts have played a pioneering role in transforming traditional ideas of charity and introducing the concept of philanthropy to make a real difference to communities. Through grant-making, direct implementation and co-partnership strategies, the Trusts support and drive innovation in the areas of: • Natural resource management • Education • Health • Livelihoods • Civil society strengthening • Media, arts, crafts and culture • Relief and rehabilitation • Innovation • Institutions The Trusts engage with competent individuals and government bodies, international agencies and like-minded private sector organisations to nurture a self-sustaining ecosystem that collectively works across all these areas. • "Resilience of healthcare systems is much more than a strategy—it is an imperative. An imperative that ensures that no individual is left vulnerable regardless of their socio-economic status, health conditions, or the geography in which they reside," said Mr. Siddharth Sharma, CEO of Tata Trusts, in his special address at the GLC4HSR's Annual Conclave 2025. He highlighted the importance of a healthcare system that remains strong, accessible, and adaptive for generations, echoing the Trusts’ commitment to lasting change. #Healthcare #HealthEquity #HealthResilience #GLC4HSR #HealthForAll #HealthyCommunities #TransformingLives #TataTrusts

At the GLC4HSR Annual Conclave's Inaugural Plenary, Mr. Siddharth Sharma, CEO, Tata Trusts, shared a powerful vision for building resilient health systems—one that goes beyond just responding to crises and instead focuses on creating lasting, adaptive frameworks for care. -Rural Healthcare Gaps: In rural India, patients often travel dozens of kilometers to access basic medical care. Supply chains are inconsistent, & care delivery is fragmented, leaving vulnerable communities without timely or consistent support. Strengthening healthcare resilience means addressing these systemic weaknesses—ensuring that people in the most remote areas have access to care without having to navigate complex and unreliable health systems. -Climate Change and Health Vulnerability: Climate change is amplifying health risks for underserved communities. Rising temperatures, air pollution, & extreme weather events disproportionately affect those already struggling with limited access to care. Many health incidents go unreported due to lack of access, low awareness, and social stigma. Building resilience means integrating climate and health strategies—ensuring that climate-vulnerable communities are equipped with the resources & support they need to withstand environmental challenges. - Strengthening Primary Healthcare (PHC): Mr. Sharma highlighted that 80% of health conditions can be addressed at the primary healthcare level—if PHCs are properly resourced and staffed. While India can build numerous tertiary care centers, without a robust and accessible PHC network, the system will remain strained. Expanding the reach and capacity of community health workers (CHWs) is essential to closing this gap and delivering care where it’s needed most. -The Untapped Potential of Telemedicine: Despite its proven effectiveness during the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine remains underutilized. Expanding telemedicine services can decongest healthcare facilities, reduce travel burdens, & improve access—especially in remote areas. Scalable models like the hub-and-spoke system can create decentralized care networks, making specialized services more accessible at the community level. -Building Trust: Ultimately, healthcare resilience is not just about infrastructure and services—it’s about building trust within communities. Without trust, even the most well-designed healthcare interventions may fail to reach those who need them most. Establishing trust means involving communities in healthcare decisions, ensuring transparency, and delivering consistent, high-quality care that meets people’s real needs. "Resilience is not just about surviving the next health crisis—it’s about creating a system that ensures care for everyone, every time." Mr. Siddharth Sharma’s message is a call to action: To build a future where healthcare is accessible, reliable, and equitable—for rural and urban communities alike. • Whether it’s Rahim chacha in Sholay or you when you have posted in a whatsapp group with friends, silence is usually a cause for concern. This week on #SaturdayInVennting we explore the silence surrounding mental health. This silence speaks volumes about the stigma around the issue thereby preventing people from seeking the support they need. Breaking this barrier starts with open dialogue—normalizing conversations around mental health and emotional wellbeing is the first step towards healing and change.  #TataTrusts

  • Preserving India’s art heritage presents unique challenges...and opportunities. With limited academic resources and a lack of formal training in conservation, the field has long been underserved. In 2019, Tata Trusts launched the Art Conservation Initiative to bridge this gap, and began training passionate conservators across the country. By equipping them with advanced skills and appropriate knowledge, and fostering collaborations, this initiative has fostered a new generation of conservators who are ready to preserve India’s cultural treasures for the future. #ArtConservation #ArtConservationInitiative #CulturalHeritage #AncientArt #TataTrusts
