Excited to share our photoessay on #agrivoltaics, co-authored with my colleagues, Nivedita Cholayil and Shreyas Joshi with WRI India. Through a series of photos from pioneering installations by Surindar Ahuja at Issapur and the Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Ujwa, we capture insights in small doses of the wonderful ways in which #agriPV systems can move lives, without essentially moving too much. The tremendous potential of agrivoltaics in India is well established, not least through the efforts of India Agrivoltaics Alliance (IAA), Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Cochin International Airport [CIAL], Vikash Sharma, among so many others like Gulabsing Girase whose beautiful plant is further evidence of the potential we speak about. In our article, we stress on how a people-centered approach in scaling #agrivoltaics in India can be truly transformative. PhotoEssay | Agrivoltaics system integrates solar power generation with agricultural activities, such as crop cultivation and livestock rearing. This innovative system provides economic benefits through job creation and solar grazing, directly benefiting local farmers by generating additional income. However, like any emerging solution, there are challenges. From upfront costs to crop adjustments and land-use changes, the adoption of agrivoltaics can be complex. To ensure its equitable implementation for all farmers, supportive policies and incentives are crucial. Read this piece by Vishwajeet Poojary, Nivedita Cholayil and Shreyas Joshi in Gaon Connection about how #agrivoltaics can transform livelihoods while contributing to India's clean energy transition. ➡️ Agrivoltaics: A Pathway to Sustainable Livelihoods and Renewable Energy - Gaon Connection | India's Biggest Rural Media Platform: https://lnkd.in/gQFBnxVv #AgriPV #PeopleCenteredTransition

🌍 Restoring our Commons. Rebuilding our Future Across India, the degradation of rural commons—shared forests, pastures, water bodies and community institutions—has severely impacted the lives of millions who depend on these resources. But there is hope through the foregrounding of community-led governance and stewardship. The Common Ground Initiative empowers local communities to take charge of their commons through collaborative, community-led action. By restoring these shared resources, we are not only addressing rural livelihoods, climate vulnerability, and gender inequities but also strengthening local governance structures that enable sustainable, long-term stewardship of the land. 🌱 This video showcases how communities lead the way in regenerating their natural landscapes, ensuring equitable access, and building a more resilient and sustainable future. Through self-governance, the hope is to ensure that those closest to the commons remain its most effective custodians. Let’s support these efforts and be part of the change we seek—where commons are not only conserved but governed by the communities that rely on them, ensuring ecological, social and economic well-being for generations to come. 🔗 Learn more about Common Ground and how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/gKKbZDUD 1000 Landscapes For 1 Billion People | Aranyak EcoHarvest Pvt. Presenting a heartfelt poem composed by one of the Vayu-Veers from Jamshedpur towards celebrating a pollution-free Diwali. These Vayu-Veers are a cohort of youth and women from marginalized communities who are at the forefront of fighting air pollution in their neighborhood. This year, the Vayu-Veers, with the support of #Asar, Clean Air Jharkhand and Adarsh Seva Sansthan; took it upon themselves to spread awareness about rising air pollution especially during the time of festivities. Their Diwali campaign included a range of activities with one focused aim: bring together everyone to reduce air pollution. #PradushanFreeDiwali #Diwali2024 #AirPollutionAwareness #CleanAirNow Vinuta Gopal Brikesh Singh Sanjiv Gopal Natasha Chandy Munna Jha Ankita Jyoti Madhav Sharma Virat Singh Bodhisattva Sen Roy Kriti Satti satyam kumar

On October 21 and 22, an important exhibition was organised in Delhi’s Madanpur Khadar slum by Architecture for Dialogue (AfD) to display some of the solutions they have come up with to minimise the impact of household air pollution on women’s health. It is an outcome of a collaboration between AfD, Cornerstone Knowledge Builders and #Asar under Asar’s Gender and Climate Programme. The exhibition was conducted to create awareness about the impact of biomass burning on the health and well-being of women in these slums and also displayed some 3D models of chimneys that reduce the exposure to smoke in the houses. Over the last 2 years, AfD has been conducting research in the community to build easy-to-use and scalable solutions to reduce exposure to cooking fumes, especially to women and children and is currently testing three different prototypes in the locality. Many residents and members from various groups in the community attended the exhibition and were happy to see the solutions presented. Cornerstone Knowledge Builders supported this exhibition with on-ground mobilisation. These housing solutions can potentially lead to a reduced exposure to household air pollution for women who continue burning biomass as they are unable to access cleaner fuels for cooking. #HouseholdAirPollution #CleanAir #CleanCooking #GenderandClimate #AirPollution #AirQuality #women Neha Saigal Ankita Bhatkhande Saumya Shrivastava Elizabeth Soby

In this edition of Climate Café, co-hosted by #Asar and Regenerative Bihar, we explore the often ignored impact of climate change on animal behaviour and human-wildlife conflict. A recent study by the University of Helsinki and Lancaster University revealed how climate change is altering the behaviours of a variety of animals, ranging from birds to reptiles, with far-reaching consequences for ecosystems and the human communities that depend on them. Bihar is not alien to these phenomenon, with over 3,000 incidents of human-wildlife conflicts reported in 2023 alone. As shifting weather patterns disrupt habitats, incidents like snake bites have soared, highlighting the urgent need for action and dialogue. We are excited to features the following speakers at this event: ▶️ Sri Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Director, Central Bureau for Communication, Patna ▶️ Ms. Situ Tiwari, Journalist, BBC ▶️ Sri Abhishek, Herpetologist and Human-Wildlife Conflict Management Practitioner, Nature Environment and Wildlife Society ▶️ Sri Bharat Thakur, Forest Farmer, Bhimbandh Forests Munna Jha Ishteyaque Ahmad Omkar Nagawade Avimuktesh Bhardwaj Vinuta Gopal Sanjiv Gopal Vishwajeet Poojary
