    During a high-level meeting with His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, Airtel Africa Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, KBE, and CEO Sunil Taldar commended the Government’s recent designation of telecom infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII). They emphasized that this policy would play a pivotal role in safeguarding and expanding Nigeria’s digital backbone, ensuring resilient connectivity for all. Airtel Africa leaders reaffirmed the organisation's unwavering focus on advancing financial inclusion across Nigeria, particularly through its subsidiary, SmartCash PSB, which empowers underserved communities with accessible digital financial services. They also detailed the company’s ongoing investments in expanding network coverage, enhancing service quality, and bridging the digital divide. Additionally, Mr. Taldar highlighted Airtel Africa’s transformative $57 million partnership with UNICEF, which has since onboarded 1,260 schools and 600,000+ students into digital learning platforms like the country's Nigerian Learning Passport (NLP). This initiative, now in its fourth year, continues to solidify Airtel Africa's dedication to equipping future generations with tech-driven education. Investments in Nigeria's critical infrastructure are integral to supporting its youthful demographic, which makes up about 70% of the total population. By committing to supporting digital infrastructure and working closely with the Government of Nigeria, Airtel Africa is playing a key role in accelerating connectivity, developing digital skills, and promoting financial inclusion.     Yesterday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received our Founder and Chairman, Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, KBE alongside Group CEO, Airtel Africa, Sunil Taldar; Chairperson, Airtel Networks Nigeria, Awuneba Ajumogobia; and Managing Director/CEO, Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh to discuss several key areas of Airtel collaboration with the government towards a vibrant digital economy. During that meeting, Mr. Mittal restated Airtel's significant support for the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program, a Presidential mandate to train young technical talents across the country. Airtel's support will ensure that a minimum of 25,000 youth drawn from 80 local government areas benefit from this unprecedented project. Additionally, Airtel presented to the President a scholarship for 10 Nigerian students to study science and technology-focused courses at the Plaksha University. These undergraduate scholarships are driven by the newly expanded Airtel Africa Fellowship of the Airtel Africa Foundation. It was a distinguished opportunity to discuss with a high-level Presidential team, which included the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; and Special Adviser to the President on Technology and Digital Economy, Idris Alubankudi with the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Aminu Maida.     Nigeria's digital economy is a beacon for Africa's digitization efforts, and Airtel Africa has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the country to accelerate this progress.   • Our Founder & Chairman, Sunil Bharti Mittal was presented the insignia of the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) by H.E. Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III. The investiture was conducted at a ceremony held in New Delhi earlier today, Saturday February 22, 2025. The KBE is among the highest honours conferred by the British Sovereign on civilians, and is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. Announced on February 28, 2024, this recognition celebrates Mr. Mittal’s contributions to strengthening UK – India business relations, making him the first Indian citizen to have received the honour from His Majesty the King.
