Recently, I Sunny Kodukula came back to India for a family trip and I must say, I was in for quite a surprise. During my time away, I always kept hearing about the advancements India was making, but seeing is believing. The biggest shocker for me was seeing how widespread and efficient the UPI payment method has become. From local markets to high-end restaurants, UPI is everywhere! On our first day, I was amazed to see every vendor at a bustling bazaar accepting UPI payments via QR codes, making transactions seamless. At dinner, I noticed everyone using UPI to pay, highlighting India's leadership in digital payment platforms. The speed, security, and convenience of UPI are unparalleled. However, being an NRI, I initially faced difficulties using UPI as my international number wasn't linked to an Indian bank account. That's when my family told me about CHEQ UPI. This incredible app allows foreigners like me to make UPI payments effortlessly. "When is Spain gonna have UPI like India ?" Recently, I Alba Henares Fernández had the incredible opportunity to attend a wedding in India for 14 days. One evening, I went out to explore a local market.I found a beautiful handcrafted scarf that I just had to have. When I tried to pay with my credit card, the vendor informed me they only accepted cash. Embarrassed, I had to ask my friend to cover the cost, which was awkward and made me feel uncomfortable. Another time, I decided to take a rickshaw ride to visit a famous temple. The ride was a wonderful experience, but when it came time to pay, I realized the driver didn't accept cards either. Once again, I had to rely on my friend to pay for the ride, making me feel like a burden. The most frustrating moment was when we dined at a charming, traditional restaurant. The food was exquisite, and I wanted to treat my friend as a thank you for all the help. However, when the bill arrived, the restaurant's card machine malfunctioned. We scrambled to pool our cash together, but we were short. I had to borrow money from my friend, and I felt embarrassed and stressed in what should have been a delightful evening. Thankfully, I stumbled upon some information about the CHEQ UPI app on Reddit and Quora. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. Using CHEQ UPI was a game-changer! Fast forward to a decade later, and my latest trip showed me a whole new side of my homeland. Seriously, it’s like I stepped into a future where QR codes rule the roost! “I nearly ended up washing dishes in a restaurant due to card issues." As the sun set over the Arabian Sea, I sat savoring a delicious Goan dinner at a beachside restaurant. The evening had been perfect, but as I reached for my wallet to pay, my heart sank. I had only brought cash, forgetting that many places here preferred digital transactions. The restaurant didn't accept cash, and no ATMs were nearby. Feeling stranded, I started to panic. Just then, a random stranger (Indian) from a nearby table noticed my distress. "No card, sir. Only cash or UPI" "UPI ? What is that ?" As I disembarked from my flight in India, excited for my first international business trip, my excitement was palpable. However, my excitement soon faced a hurdle I hadn't anticipated: the challenge of simply buying a meal. Hungry and eager to taste the local cuisine, I approached several street food vendors, drawn by the delicious smells of samosas and biryani. But when I tried to pay with my credit card, I was turned away each time. "No card, sir. Only cash or UPI," I was repeatedly told. "UPI ? What is that ?" I thought. I found myself wandering the streets, bewildered and increasingly hungry. In my desperation, I turned to a group of local students, explaining my plight. They generously shared their snacks and introduced me to CheqUPI (YC S23), a digital payment system that they claimed was essential for travelers in India. One of them, Ankit, helped me download and set up the CheqUPI (YC S23) app on my phone, linking it to my bank account. He explained how it could be used to make quick and secure payments by scanning QR codes, a common practice at almost all vendors and shops across the city. The next day, armed with CheqUPI (YC S23) on my phone, I ventured out with a new sense of confidence. The ease of use was astounding. I simply scanned QR codes to pay for a variety of delicious street foods, from spicy vada pav to sweet chai, experiencing the true flavors of India without any hassle. However, as the sun began to set, I realized that my phone's battery was critically low, and I needed to book a cab to return to my hotel. To my dismay, the village had no ATMs, and the local shops only accepted cash. Feeling stranded, I approached a small tea stall and explained my predicament to the owner. He listened intently and then, with a smile, introduced me to CheqUPI (YC S23).
