#RestinpeacePadmashriKanakRaju We at the Centre for People's Forestry are deeply saddened by the passing of Padma Shri Kanaka Raju, a prominent Gussadi dancer and cultural icon from Marlavai village in Jainoor, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. With over 60 years of dedication, he passionately promoted this unique art form, which is integral to the tribal way of life. The Gussadi dance, performed during the Dandari festival that begins after Deepavali and continues for 10 days, showcases dancers adorned in vibrant costumes and wearing caps made of around 1,500 peacock feathers, embodying the spirit of their rich cultural heritage. His demise is a profound loss for the cultural landscape and the folk arts community. Kanaka Raju's passion and commitment inspired many and enriched our heritage. On behalf of the CPF Trustees and team, we extend our heartfelt condolences to all who were touched by his remarkable spirit. Rest in peace, Kanaka Raju. Your legacy will forever resonate within our hearts and communities
