Watershed Support Services and Activities Network (WASSAN), Hyderabad is a network-based organization focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. It engages actively in policy advocacy initiatives at state and national level mainly related to rainfed areas. WASSAN has contributed substantially to development of watershed policies in various states and at Government of India. WASSAN is also working with various partners in different States as part of RRA Network on rainfed agriculture related agenda.

  • 🌾 @Kisan Mela 2025 – Anandpur, West Singhbhum, Jharkhand 🌿 The vibrant Kisan Mela 2025 brought together farmers, organizations, and stakeholders to celebrate Anandpur's agricultural diversity! Key themes included natural farming, livestock healthcare, draught animal power, mobile solar carts, millet cultivation, seed diversity (68 desi seeds), rainfed farming, and Integrated Farming Systems (IFS). Organizations like JSLPS, ATMA, LEADS, and BRLF actively participated, showcasing their initiatives and commitments. Key Outcomes: ✅ Formation of a Block-level Coordination Committee chaired by the BDO, with WASSANIndia, JSLPS, BAO, ATMA, Forest Dept., LEADS & other departments. ✅ A phased transition towards chemical-free farming, ensuring farmers' yield and income. ✅ Cold storage & regular livestock vaccines to be provided by JSLPS within three months, alongside strengthened poultry & livestock healthcare services led by the BDO. ✅ Saplings & seeds for plantation schemes & Didi Badi Yojana will be sourced locally, supporting a WASSAN-trained seed farmer/nursery entrepreneur. In Seethampeta Mandal, Parvathipuram-Manyam District, Andhra Pradesh, a group of tribal women is shaping a brighter future through millet-based entrepreneurship. At their Millet Kitchen, children from nearby villages eagerly gather to enjoy fresh and nutritious millet snacks. With support from WASSANIndia & HDFC Bank Parivartan program, they have established millet kitchens, not just reviving traditional food habits but also empowering themselves socially and economically. From catering at government events to fulfilling large-scale orders, these women showcase how determination and skill can drive meaningful change. We focused on the remarkable progress of two women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs): Boddaguda and Pedarama Millet Kitchens. These SHGs are not just producing food; they're cultivating economic empowerment and redefining local markets with innovative millet-based products. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Pedarama SHG has successfully integrated into the local ecosystem, providing regular snacks to school children and operating strategic evening snack stalls. Their ability to secure large-scale catering orders, including an impressive 10,000 laddus for a temple event, is a testament to their capability and quality. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Demonstrating strong financial acumen, the Pedarama SHG maintains meticulous accounts, ensuring transparency and accountability. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The SHGs' commitment to professionalism is evident in their organized dress code and demeanor. They've independently developed their infrastructure, building their own cooking sheds. 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: These groups have set ambitious income targets of ₹30,000 per member monthly and have strategic plans to invest in machinery and establish their own retail outlets. 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬: The SHGs require professional training in record-keeping, assistance in opening organizational bank accounts, and support in standardizing pricing and packaging. Their innovative approach to millet-based products and local market engagement showcases the immense potential of women-led enterprises in driving rural economic development. In this IWD campaign, we're sharing stories that ignite change. These women's energy and innovation don't just demonstrate potential—they redefine it.
