Ten years ago, when Dhwani RIS started, the landscape of technology in the social sector looked very different. The conversation wasn’t about optimization—it was about possibility. Many NGOs were hesitant about adopting digital tools, and convincing stakeholders of the long-term value of technology was an uphill task. We are incredibly grateful to our first few NGO partners— S M Sehgal Foundation, AKRSP-India, Digital Empowerment Foundation, IIMPACT , Transform Rural India, Piramal Foundation and Swasti who placed their trust in us during our early days. Their openness to experimentation and belief in the power of data laid the foundation for the work we do today. As organizations grow in maturity, so does their tech capability. From starting with quick, point solutions to maturing into fully integrated platforms and even developing their own Digital Public Goods (#DPGs), the evolution has been fascinating. And now, with the rapid advancements in Generative AI, we’re witnessing a new wave of curiosity and experimentation within the NGO sector. In the past few months, many of our partners have started exploring how AI can empower their teams and operations. Some are even setting up dedicated AI task forces/ COEs, focusing on two main goals: 1. Upskilling their teams in AI capabilities 2. Identifying areas where AI can make a real difference, such as fundraising, monitoring & evaluation, donor communication, and reporting. At Dhwani RIS, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing this shift firsthand—we, too, are running our own set of Gen AI experiments and are excited to see the possibilities unfold. It's humbling to witness the sector's journey from the initial adoption of digital tools to embracing AI-driven innovation. On #WorldNGODay, we celebrate the changemakers who make impact happen every day. We’re proud to have been part of this journey—building with NGOs, not just for them. Launched on January 23, 2025, Indian School of Development Management (ISDM) DataSights, powered by Capgemini and developed in collaboration with Dhwani RIS, is transforming data accessibility in the social sector. By unifying SDG data, providing visual insights, and equipping organizations with decision-making tools, ISDM DataSights bridges the gap between information and impact. The event began with a plenary note by Ravi Sreedharan, President and Co-founder of ISDM, followed by a keynote address from Aarti Srivastava, Chief Human Resources Officer – India, Capgemini. The launch chief guest, Dr. Rajesh Shukla, MD and CEO of People’s Research on India’s Consumer Economy (PRICE), delivered an address emphasizing the platform’s significance. A panel discussion, "The Relevance of Technology and Data for the Social Sector," was moderated by Prof. Anand Rao, Distinguished Service Professor of Data Science and AI at Carnegie Mellon University. Thrilled to share the success of our recent "AI Manthan" competition. We challenged our teams to transform a B2C app concept into a fully functional product - complete with documentation and automation testing. What happened next was mind-blowing. The teams accomplished in mere hours what traditionally takes months. Even more fascinating was seeing our non-engineering colleagues outshine seasoned developers, proving that AI is truly democratizing tech development. Teams leveraged cutting-edge AI tools like StackBlitz, Cursor, Codeium and Lovable, giving us invaluable insights into their comparative strengths. The solutions delivered weren't just prototypes - they were production-ready applications! Huge congratulations to all participants, especially our winners! This experiment confirmed our belief that AI isn't just changing how we work - it's revolutionizing WHO can build technology. This is just the beginning.
