In May 2024, the Indian subcontinent experienced its warmest May ever, continuing a trend of record-breaking global temperatures for 12 consecutive months. Temperatures rose by 0.7°C over the last century, heatwaves have claimed over 22,000 lives between 1992 - 2015. The heat also results in significant economic losses, with 101 billion labor hours lost annually. A case study in Palava City has revealed the benefits of nature-based solutions in reducing urban temperatures.
