In India, where 85% of acid attack victims are women, the physical scars are just the beginning. After enduring unimaginable pain, countless surgeries, and relentless court battles, add Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to that list—the invisible scar survivors carry every single day. But what drives these attacks? Often, it’s rejected for unwanted advances, breakups, dowry demands, or property disputes. But no reason justifies a crime so cruel. For survivors, PTSD is the hardest battle of all. While the world sees their physical wounds, few understand the depth of the trauma and fear that follow them for years. This October, together with Project Nyayri, we are shedding light on the brutal repercussions on the mental health of survivors. As part of our ongoing support for rural girls in West Bengal with Shreeja India, our program goes beyond football training—it focuses on enhancing their mental and physical well-being. Each player undergoes psychological assessments, followed by customized mental toughness training to improve decision-making and performance. These sessions are fostering resilience, empowering the girls to thrive both on and off the field. Additionally, they receive balanced meals, including eggs, khichdi, and fruits, to boost their health, concentration, and academic progress. Recently, the girls at the HOPE KOLKATA FOUNDATION engaged in the practice of Yoga, where they learned about women's empowerment through each Asana. Emphasizing breathing techniques contributed to their physical and mental well-being, fostering harmony and resilience. Additionally, our talented girls excelled at the 10th Kolkata District Taekwondo Championships, with five participants each winning a gold medal! Their remarkable skills demonstrated their dedication and the strength of girl power.
