Building a Sustainable Future with the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. At SYSTRA, we are proud to contribute to innovative and eco-friendly engineering solutions that support environmental sustainability. One such innovation is our monopile technology used in the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (Package 2) In collaboration with Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Hyundai Development Corporation (HDC). This groundbreaking method reduced the impact on marine ecosystems while speeding up construction by minimizing the seabed footprint. The project features: -A 696-meter-long bridge with a 35-meter width. -Interchange arms extending 2400 meters in length and 11 meters wide. -Monopiles designed for the sea stretch, ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 meters in diameter. In addition, our team also played a key role in proof-checking the Bow String Network Arch Bridge – a 136-meter-long span that ensures passage for the local fishing community, balancing infrastructure needs with the preservation of local livelihoods. Last week the Geotechnical Engineering Department at IIT Delhi hosted an event to celebrate the centenary of Karl Terzaghi, the Father of Geotechnical Engineering. They invited SYSTRA to present at the occasion. Dr. Nishith Gupta, Our CTO, spoke to the academic audience and PhD students about a multidisciplinary approach to underground tunnel design. His presentation addressed the various challenges and constraints encountered in urban tunneling, using visuals and video footage from real projects to emphasize the need for collaboration in tackling these issues. Dr. Gupta also outlined SYSTRA’s framework for successfully managing complex underground projects, particularly tunnels and stations. Following this, a panel discussion focused on “Bridging the Gap between Academia and Industry.” Dr. Gupta answered questions from students and faculty regarding potential collaborations between industry and educational institutions to address technical challenges.
