Onwards and Upwards With The New Thing 🙌
When the safe route for an idea prevails, creative excitement dies a slow death through its process.
So, when we pitched our treatment for their gifting campaign, it was refreshing to see the enthusiasm mirrored by the team over at IGP.
Our proposal: A journey through genres and time–paying homage to B. R. Chopra’s ‘Mahabharat Universe’.
While committing to the ‘80’s aesthetic was a creative decision we were all adrenalised by, bringing back the analog visuals in today’s digital era was a lot more challenging. Full props to the First December Films & Shivang Monga for their commitment to the craft throughout the production process.
As a first step, the team started by restricting itself to the production elements available in the ‘80’s.
The production design, led by Lavanya Grover, relied on single axis setups with imperfectly-painted landscapes in the background. Props and accents in the foregrounding physical space emulated the ‘CG’ and art capabilities available to film crews back in the day.
Costume designer, Prashant Sawant, went the extra mile to recreate a scrappy DIY charm to the costumes, not unlike the ones kids rent for annual day performances in school, with props and jewellery that looked intentionally fake.
From fabric choices to grainy video textures, every element was meticulously planned, discussed and debated, to ensure that the viewer is transported to that iconic era of television. All of this, done with the sole intention of presenting a humorous take on gifting in the past, present and future, from the POV of an ‘80’s TV production crew.

Growing up as a Kolkata Bangali, my default prequel to Diwali has been Durga Pujo. Navratri and Dussehra were festivals that I hadn’t experienced personally.
Luckily, working in advertising takes you to new experiences. This time, it was Bengaluru, to an amusement park in its after hours.
I tasted a traditional festive thali. I admired the life-sized Mysore Dolls in awe. I saw Ravana's effigy burn. I experienced 'Dasara'.
Cracking this was a lot of learning and a lot of fun. 10x actually 🤭

Presenting the second from a mind-blowing series: Wonderla Dasara
All I remember was that my heart beat a little faster, my palms were sweatier, hair went for a toss and adrenaline left my body as I felt a sense of accomplishment take over.
I'm not talking about the post-Wonderla headrush, but a ride that no other park goer will ever experience. This was just me, climbing onto a crane with MD Rafi to capture a KV shot I pitched so ambitiously.
