In the dry landscapes of Saswad, Pune district, Maharashtra, farmers have been facing significant challenges due to limited water resources. And so, back in 2022, through #ProjectAbhyuday, we set out on a journey together with farmers from Parinche village, implementing various soil and water conservation structures with support from John Deere Financial India Pvt. Ltd. One of our tasks on hand was rejuvenating the community water stream, focusing on desilting the vital water source that holds the promise of maximising yield and increasing water availability for a prolonged duration. Additionally, doing so would also ensure that these resources are used efficiently and equitably by all, while protecting the quality of the water. Over the course of just one month, we excavated 13,500 cubic metres of soil, allowing the water stream to reach its full capacity of 1.35 crore litres. This effort not only enhanced water availability but also repurposed the excavated soil to turn barren land into productive agricultural fields, benefitting over 1,000 community members! By transforming barren land into productive agricultural fields, our work through #ProjectAbhyuday aims to support local farmers like Rohidas Shevte, improve community resilience, and ensure sustainable livelihoods in the region. Here are few pictures of the before-and-after transformation! As part of our commitment towards enhancing health-seeking behavior in our communities, we at United Way Mumbai have been working towards improving the eye health of seniors. Recently, with ExxonMobil's support, we launched a series of free eye checkup camps across Mumbai. So far, we’ve held three camps in Jogeshwari, Datta Tekdi, Shed Center in Dharavi, and Makhurd, providing vision care to 245 elderly individuals. Our goal is to screen over 500 seniors in the upcoming camps. By addressing undiagnosed vision issues, with the help of on-site ophthalmologists, we aim to offer consultations and solutions, mostly through a pair of spectacles, and in some cases, even referrals for further treatment. This has even helped us detect common age-related vision problems such as cataracts, glaucoma, and presbyopia, and guide elderly individuals to appropriate care. Together, we’re making eye care accessible for our elderly community! #UnitedWayMumbai #SocialImpactDoneRight #HealthyCommunities #EyeCare #AccessibleEyeCare #Healthcare #NGOsinMumbai #HealthCamps #EyeCheckups

Importance of Water conservation and improving water productivity in agriculture are critical for India's sustainability, as agriculture consumes nearly 80-90% of its freshwater. Groundwater levels are depleting rapidly, with states like Punjab and Haryana seeing significant declines. India's per capita water availability has dropped to 1,545 cubic meters (2011), and could fall to 1,340 cubic meters by 2025, pushing the country into water scarcity. Inefficient irrigation methods like flood irrigation waste water. For instance, 1 kg of rice requires 2,500-5,000 liters of water. Transitioning to water-efficient methods such as micro-irrigation can improve water productivity by 30-40%. Government schemes like PMKSY promote efficient irrigation, but only 15% of India's irrigated land uses micro-irrigation. To meet future demands, adopting water-smart agriculture, crop diversification, and precision technologies is vital for ensuring food security and mitigating climate change impacts. A big thanks to every support, who gave us the opportunity to work in the drought-affected regions of India. The Tata Mumbai Marathon has been a significant part of my work life for over a decade— not just as an event, but alongside my own journey of growth, challenges, and understanding collective impact. The philanthropy of the Mumbai Marathon is something I’ve had the privilege of steering since 2011. Back then, we were a small team of four handling the #philanthropy side of the marathon. Our role as philanthropy partner was straightforward — helping NGOs raise funds and awareness for their causes, assist in building their capacities, connect them with partners, and create a platform that amplified their work. The Marathon even then was among India’s largest philanthropy events. It was also our largest partnership constituting 90% of our top line. But it was very challenging, the processes were far from seamless. Everything was heavily paper-based — tedious, prone to errors, and a constant source of stress. It didn’t help that we were severely under resourced. The move from manual to digital processes was a monumental shift for us. It wasn’t just about convenience; it was about laying the foundation for scalable processes that we still rely on today. This transition allowed us to build something more robust, adaptable, and capable of handling the increasing demands of the marathon’s growing scale. We’ve also poured all our efforts in truly understanding our key stakeholders- Indian #NGOs of varying sizes, capacities, resources and bandwidths. The TMM now generates a massive ₹72.4 crores annually, supporting 277 NGOs with hundreds of companies, thousands of #fundraisers and many thousands of #donors. Our team is still a team of four but with vastly changed abilities to handle scale with efficiency. The real credit goes to the investments we’ve made in scalable processes, #technology, and most importantly, in building relationships with our partners. We have partnered with 740 NGOs, 300 corporations, and over 14,600 fundraisers to bring philanthropy at the Tata Mumbai Marathon to life. What started as a small initiative has become a powerful force for change, reminding us of the extraordinary impact we can create when we come together. This journey has been filled with challenges and triumphs, but the essence of what we do remains the same. The only thing that has truly changed is the scale at which we can operate. Each year, we continue to learn, grow, and evolve. And while the numbers have grown, the heart of the marathon remains constant—a shared commitment to building a more equitable, compassionate society. The campaign for this year has begun, and we already have 200+ NGOs, over 120 companies,, 1000+ charity bib runners and fundraisers registered . If you are reading this, do invite NGOs you support, your company, and cause driven individuals to leverage this platform to raise funds, friends and awareness for causes close to them. https://lnkd.in/d5vDHysg #UnitedWayMumbai #TataMumbaiMarathon #UnitedWay

We’re thrilled to share that our team members, Sandesh Pawar (Deputy Manager - Community Investment) and Daniel Raj (Manager - Community Investment), recently attended the 15th Global Skills Summit 2024 on September 25-26 at Kaushal Bhawan, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Moti Bagh, New Delhi, as delegates, engaging in insightful discussions under the theme "Skills First: Unlocking Opportunities for All." Our team gained valuable insights on how industries are driving youth skill development, employment-linked schemes, enhancing women’s workforce participation, and leveraging the national wage matrix (a compensation system based on skills). It was also an excellent opportunity to exchange best practices and engage with experts from government, industry, academia, and philanthropy, all committed to building a more inclusive skills ecosystem. Here are a few glimpses from the summit! #UnitedWayMumbai #SocialImpactDoneRight #FICCIGSS2024 #SkillsFirst #SkillIndia #GlobalSkillsSummit #InclusiveGrowth #WorkforceDevelopment #SkillingIndia FICCI Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, India
