A Look Into The Life Of Serene Sundari - Lost Leopard Cub There are many incidents in Maharashtra where a leopard mother leaves her cubs in sugarcane fields, ironically to protect them from any danger, while she goes for a hunt. These cubs, hidden under dense stalks, are chanced upon by farmers harvesting the field leaving them vulnerable and alone. When the mother leopard does not return for a prolonged period, rigorous attempts are made by forest officials and Wildlife SOS to reunite the cubs with her so that they can safely return to their natural habitat. In those unfortunate cases where, despite repeated attempts, the mother leopard does not return to reclaim her cubs, urgent attention needs to be given to young ones for their health and survival. Such was the case of Sundari, who was just four-months-old when relentless efforts to reunite her with her mother yielded no results, leaving her lost and helpless. 30 Years working tirelessly, protecting and conserving India's amazing wildlife.
About us
Wildlife SOS, since it’s inception in 1995, has launched various initiatives to protect India’s endangered animals as well as their natural habitat; including anti-poaching activity, rescue and rehabilitation facilities and in-situ habitat conservation. Our holistic programs have helped tribal communities move away from their dependency on commercial use of wildlife and illegal wildlife trade, turning instead to sustainable and long term trades. Wildlife SOS has been nurtured and grown from humble beginnings, by committed, dedicated individuals with passion and has now become one of the premier wildlife rescue organisations in the world. It’s internationally respected track record speaks for itself.

Wildlife SOS recently participated in the 3rd National Conference on Lesser-Known Species of Madhya Pradesh, where Director of Conservation Efforts, Baiju Raj, highlighted the urgent need to protect not just priority species like leopards, elephants, and bears but also lesser-known wildlife, including reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Baiju spoke about the increasing challenges of human-wildlife conflict and the devastating impact of wildlife trafficking on ecosystems. To tackle these issues, Wildlife SOS is actively working with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Forest Department, Police Department, and other enforcement agencies, conducting anti-poaching raids, intercepting illegal trade, and responding to rescue calls across the country. Through strategic interventions, public awareness, and hands-on rescue operations, Wildlife SOS continues to make a difference in wildlife conservation. You can support this mission by visiting our rescue centres, learning about our work firsthand, or contributing to help protect India’s rich biodiversity. Every effort counts in securing a future for these incredible animals. #WildlifeSOS #Wildlifeconservation #Awareness #wildlife #Humanwildlifeconflict #support #india

Some of Our Exciting, Lesser-Known Successes In 2024 As our many conservation initiatives continue to bloom, we’re thrilled with all of Wildlife SOS’s quiet (and not so quiet) successes of 2024. Some of these programmes don’t bring the TV crews running to scoop a story, however, the steady determined efforts of so many are making a lasting impact. From improvements in treatment and care of elephants, to research, anti-poaching and community engagement to build awareness, our experience, skill, and leadership as an organisation is a shining example of creativity, stubbornness and commitment to the animals we care for so deeply. What a great way to kick-off our 30th anniversary! Read about five of these lesser known projects including our Research and Conflict Management project in Jammu & Kashmir – One of the most visually stunning areas in the world resting in the foothills of the majestic Himalayan mountains, Jammu & Kashmir has seen an unmanageable surge in tourism. Because of all the people in a traditionally rural area, our teams have been on the front lines of a dramatic rise in human-wildlife conflict. Research and community outreach have proven very effective, but we’re still in need of lasting, creative solutions for a severely over-stressed infrastructure. Wildlife SOS Celebrates 30 Years Of Saving India’s Wildlife! Wildlife SOS is honoured to celebrate 30 years of saving India’s precious wildlife. From humble beginnings in 1995 rescuing, treating and rehabilitating animals in distress from a Delhi garage, co-founders Geeta Seshamani and Kartick Satyanarayan have saved hundreds of thousands of animals. From stopping the brutal practice of ‘dancing’ bears and bringing nearly 700 endangered sloth bears to sanctuary, to building India’s first elephant hospital, their success, dedication and compassion has become a model for wildlife conservation in Asia. Although the team started by helping small animals in the Delhi area, they were studying and investigating a seemingly insurmountable problem with a much larger goal in mind — rescuing ‘dancing’ bears. At the time, it was believed bears exploited for this ancient tradition were captive bred, but through their investigations Kartick and Geeta soon learned nearly all ‘dancing’ bears were poached from the wild as cubs. A carefully crafted plan was born to do what many said was impossible — to rescue all the exploited sloth bears in India. Read our full blog https://lnkd.in/d26Xu4bz

Winter Management Program at Wildlife SOS! Winters can be tough at our centres. As temperatures drop to an all time low, our team moves into our comprehensive winter care regime, ensuring that all of our resident animals are kept as warm and comfortable as is possible. Elephants such as Lakshmi, dubbed 'India's skinniest elephant' at the time of her rescue, are provided heating lamps, soothing massages with sesame and clove oil. Lakshmi's diet is adjusted to provide additional nutrition for the cold, all details carefully tailored. Temperatures are set to drop further, at which point we will introduce jumbo jackets for the elephants, in addition bonfires will be set outside enclosures on particularly chilly nights. Our dedicated caregivers and veterinarians ensure that every animal receives the warmth and care they deserve.
